im going to run my car for the first time this year should I ditch the swaybar ? I never drove it without one im wondering how much worse the handling will be

Only if you have an aftermarket rear sway bar. Mine swayed back and fourth a lot before when I took it off. Went back with a 34mm in the front.

its a street car im hoping to get into the 11's I could always put it back on im trailering it to the track I think im gonna take it off

It's not that bad. I ran that way on the street with 90/10 shocks. Don't plan on taking any off ramps at 80 MPH. Regals were never slalom cars stock anyhow.

If you're running slicks then I'd say do it...I picked up a tenth by taking it off...the left side will raise up some as you build boost.

If your end links are in good shape you don't need to take it off. What you can do is take a ratchet and wrenches to the track and loosen the end links up so the bar and arms move more feely. Once you're done at the track tighten up the links again and drive home.;)

Charlie, wouldn't you want to get rid of 75 lbs off the front? Mine handled horribly without it. I only took it off when I went to the track. The float on these things at highway speed is damn scary....and kinda funny.

A regal sway bar is 75# really? I find that hard to believe, effective weight maybe.

The way the bar's attached it binds up the front suspension when the front of the car tires to move up. If the chassis is set up right then the bar won't make any difference. If you want to offset the weight of the bar get a large bag of sand and put it in the spare tire wheel well.;)

first thing i did was pull mine off "front bar only", left the rear on, drag shocks front & back, sways a little but i run 3.5" front wheels. U'll be fine its worth it!

I ran many 11 second passes with my street car, never once removed the front sway bar. Car also handled better than most with polygraphite bushings all around, all frame mounts installed, and ATR rear bar. Surprisingly good handling on the on ramps and still decent ride quality.

Was Typical stock engine with TA49 build.

This is a better idea, it is real easy to strip out the threads on the frame where the sway bar mounts.

Make sure the links aren't rusted up or buy new ones. If you buy new ones they should have lock nuts or double nuts so the link doesn't back off. Loosen the nut up so you have just a few threads left before the end, and have a spare in the car just in case one decides to go missing.;)

Charlie, thanks for the info. I'm actually waiting to cut out and weld new threaded bolt hole in my frame. I stripped my bolt holes on the drivers side and I even threaded with a bigger bolt, 12mm and that stripped out. The main reason for the stripping was take the sway bar off multiple times. This wasn't even at the track.

I removed my Front sway bar with a ATR bar in back and it handle kinda crappy. Then I switched to an HR bar and now it handles better than stock with the front bar on.

Use knurled rivnuts for the sway bar. I stripped the holes out trying to torque them to factory specs after replacing the bushings. There's really not much 'meat' holding the sway bar bolts in at all so drilling them out and putting bigger bolts in may not work if you're constantly loosening/tightening the bolts. Rivnuts are the way to go.
