You boys are getting ripped for "side" paint jobs then...

For a "shop" job for A+ #1 quality it is going to cost you $5-$6K I agree!

However I know some guys that can do a damn respectable job for $2k if the body isn't crap...

Thank you well said!

I have 2 friends one that has a real shop. He works on Muscle cars when insurance work is slow it keeps his guys busy. Saves the gearheads money by doing this.

my other friend paints in his 4 car garage. While it is not booth work he does a decent job. He vents the place & wets it all down & tries to shoot on optimal day. If you help him prep he will charge less. He did an IMPALA which needed a lot of work & had it for 2 months. that is worth it if you can do without your ride for 2 months.

All I am saying is if you look hard you can find the right price.

Anyway who wants to put a PICASSO on a TURD?

Storm trooper white viper anyone?

its all relative too.. some people say a macco job looks good and some people might say the same of a 10k paint job.. every guy i know in the business says it dont matter how much money you spend there's always gonna be some flaws.. A lot of "old school" guys paint as well if not better than professionally educated painters with expensive equipment. when u take ur car to a shop.. a lot of times your arent always paying for quality, you are paying for all that equipment.

Thanks for all the comments about an alternative to a paint job! :)

My 1987 white T had bad paint when delivered, and the dealer repainted it. He did a good job, but after 22 years it has blistered in a few spots. It only has just over 9000 miles.

I have wanted to get a decent job, but I hate the thought of it being in a dirty, dusty shop for 2 months or so, have the original interior pulled apart to remove the glass and other parts, and then have the still original "smell" replaced by who knows what?

Over the past few years at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, I have seen many very cool and nice paint jobs that did NOT look like wraps. So after seeing this thread, I checked out some local shops and decided to have this done after discussing it with the owner of a reputable business.

He looked my car over closely and we talked about many details of how the wrap would be done. I am confidant in his work, and he had examples on site which I examined.

In my case, I think this is a no-brainer as there is no down-side, only a big plus. No dealing with a paint shop or its issues.

I plan to keep the basic white and only add a few small accent stripes. The car has chrome trim and a ground effect package so it will have a somewhat custom look. I will remove bumpers, tail lights and wheel well mouldings so the wrap will be tucked under in those areas. He will even do the side mirrors which are in bad shape. It may take a week or more, which is fine with me as it is in a CLEAN, secure shop, not on some dirt lot at a body shop.

The cost is less than 1/4 or less than a paint job which requires all the paint/primer removed to bare metal. The estimated life of the wrap is 5-7 years, but in my case, it is garaged unless driven, so it should never be a problem. If so, removal is simple and easy - the entire wrap can be removed in 1/2 hour. Or if one panel is scratched or messed up, it can be easily replaced.

Since no one here with a Regal has done this, I will post my results and experience with it.

Do the wrap. Go nuts with it. If you don't like how it comes out, get another one! Don't worry about the change-fearing tb community.

hahahaha 2 months in the body shop jail ??? that would be nothing compared to around here... wellll ummmm did that 30 years ago.. car went to 3 body shops and sat at each one for a year.. It was a conversation piece for the shop!

Will be lookin forward for the results

Exellent! More power to ya! ;)
I love it when people step outside the box on projects. All car comunitys need some variety. To me Stock / Original is completely boring. It's different if you have a couple cars and keep one as a collector so to speak. Nick I can't wait to see the results and please keep us posted.

Do the wrap. Go nuts with it..............

This car will be rather "plain" with just accent stripes.

Next will be the race car, that will be a different animal! :D

Maybe I will even let you guys help me with input on the graphics for that one.

Nick- how much is he charging you? I started this thread and planned on wrapping my GN. Shop owner wanted $2k. Then he starts talking about painting the top half and wrapping the bottom half. I wanted it to look like the Molly GMP diecast-black on top, silver on bottom, and a red/yellow stripe in between. Well, he finally said for $3500 he would paint the whole car:eek: So I will just stick with black, although he was willing to go the two tone route. So now I started a new thread (well, revived an old thread) about paint.

Rick,

If you were to just go all black the price installed Should be LESS than $2,000. and $2,000 for it with complete graphics! A local shop here just done another F-150 P/U for Knoxville Harley Davidson with full graphics on the hood and down both sides and the tailgate. I happened to ask what that job costs and he said $2,000. and he took all the mirrors, handles, emblems off and at that price it included EVERYTHING = a complete installation.

If you ask me the two tone like you want would be pretty easy as a matter of fact. They would use just plain black on the top part and then use the silver with the printed strip on the edge for the lower half. I think it would look great!

Anything north of $2,500 OR $3,500 for a Wrap is Too much!

I know the wrap method is cheaper than paint, but I couldn't pass up $3500 for paint. Recent quotes for paint job around here were $5k to $6k. A deal like this might not come around again. The shop was definately slow, due to the economy I guess.

This shop did an SUV with a mural all the way around and it cost $6k. I really don't understand how they arrive at their prices, but they all sure know how to charge, don't they?
