Silverado Hub gone bad - AGAIN!

Any of you guys drive or work on newer GM pickups? 06 1500 Silverado, wheel bearing went bad back in January. Dealer replaced it, it's a whole hub assembly. Today, the same one went out on me again, only 3k miles later.

Passenger one is fine, so far, truck only has 27k miles on it. I do plow with it but that's generally not a part that's subject to premature failure due to plowing. Anyone else have bad hubs in their trucks or am I just lucky?

I have an 07 but it is used as a "car" all hiway use only. Havent heard of any premature failure but will ask my Chevy dealer this afternoon as I have an oil change scheduled.

Will let you know if there are any recalls etc.

I helped a freind replace the drivers side on his '05 Z71 with 38k. The guy at the parts counter said that was the second one that day. I didn't see any way to grease it without destroying the factory seals

I have an 03 Burban, and just yesterday the driver side Hub went out on it. I'm at 130K... first time Ive had anything go wrong with it.

I own a repair shop and they are common. We have replaced dozens. We have replaced them with carquest and GM and they seem to hold up ok at best so far. We just did a warranty job last week. We replaced one on an 2006 chevy 1500 in Jan 08 and it came back last week with 6000 miles and it was toast. It was a gm replacement, along with the right side as well. We replace them on the Charter cable trucks weekly. They have all gmc's in out area. I can think of 6 last week alone and 2 on a 2005 dodge half ton. They all just use too small of a sealed bearing. Seems to happen more on 04-06's. I have 126000 on my 02 suburban and I have yet to have a problem with one.

Yea, seems GM does have a problem.

On closer inspection, it wasn't the drivers side which was replaced in December, though it sure sounded like it. It was the passenger side. I figured that side would go shortly after the drivers side went Kaput.

Glad it happened to me yesterday while towing a car from Maine though and not next week while I'm on my way to Alabama!

I'm auto tech in upstate NY, Replace alot of hubs. Cars, trucks, SUV's. Winter salt doesn't help much. Just make sure when they are replaced, the guy doing the work torques the nut to spec. Over tightning will affect the longevity of the bearing. Phil
