From what I've read GNR had a lot of creative differences that started to crop up. Slash wanted to continue with the hard core rock music that made GNR famous. Axl kind of wanted to make the band more mainstream and do a bunch of soppy ballad stuff like "November Rain". Add in a few drug addictions like drummer Steven Adler that was so jacked up all the time he couldn't even play and eventually was fired by Axl. Duff McKagen drank so much booze that his pancreas nearly exploded. Then guitarist Izzy Stradlin quit. Matt Sorum, who replaced Steven Adler was fired...........and on and on it goes. Basically the whole thing turned into a giant circus with Axl being the ring leader and #1 headcase.
BTW, I agree the new "GNR" which out of the original members now has only Axl, does indeed suck the big one. From a couple of the tracks I heard Axl's voice is gone. Too bad.
