Recently got my car back on the road after a few years and noticed it was shifting out of 1st gear REALLY late. Tried adjusting tv cable as recommended on other posts before realizing the extremely late shifting was actually the tranny skipping 2nd gear altogether and shifting onto 3rd. Found this out by manual shifting. The od also kicks in only once in a while and only if over 70mph!
Based on what I've read, is there hope with a governor replacement and finally changing the oil and filter? The car sat for years waiting on the engine. Its currently my daily driver and I'm hoping I can avoid a rebuilt for now....and so is my wallet:redface: Just want to know if I'm on the right track with the governor , maybe it's spring and dirty oil. Hoping is something I can tackle over the weekend. I'm no mechanic, but ignorant enough to say "LETS DO THIS" Thanks in advance for the anticipated help.

Nothing better than a cup of coffee and tranny oil bath early in the morning! Dropped the pan and found "sludge", but no metal debris. Is this normal for a high milage car or a sign to bigger problems? OIL PAN.jpg

looks normal for higher mileage trans, the sludge is just friction material from the clutches.
Someone will chime in with more info.

I am thinking the band is shot and it's rebuild time.

Hoping to get a few more miles b4 rebuilding. The governor had the spring in place so I'll just replace the gasket and put it back in. Have to find a magnet for the bottom of the pan, non in there and put in the drain plug. I'll be replacing the throttle valve spring in hopes of improvement. Whats this I've read about " band anchor pin" or something similar? Any guidance will be much appreciated

You can replace the stock Band Anchor Pin with the 300M Billet Steel Pin which is "much" stronger. It goes in the bottom of the Case, ValveBody & Seperator Plate has to be removed & Band held in place while replacing.
White circle/hole below Checkball 55G in Pic here >> http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/ge...-anyone-know-where-check-balls-go-200-4r.html is the location. Builders on here should have more Info on replacement procedure.
