i had my trans rebuilt about 700mi ago.
this morning on the freeway i gave the gas half throttle and the motor over reved just like i was in neutral.
after i got off the freeway, and parked, i could hear a tapping/knocking noise as if i had a bad exhaust leak comming from the transmission area.
i took it easy to make it to work. while on the way i noticed the trans wont hold more than 1/4 throttle.
it seems like i may have lost the torque converter to flywheel bolts but i would think that the car wouldnt move if that was the case.

taps/knocks in all gears including park.

did the pump take a dump?
WTF!

Hi Andrew, The noise that you hear could be a broken flexplate. The shifting problem could be a lot of different things. I would get in touch with the person that rebuilt it and have him take a look at it. If you have anymore questions you can give me a call .

Thanks for the support.

thanks art, so far i found out the clicking sound is what happens before the trans gives out. i tried to drive it and the car stopped ticking and moving at the same time. so now i have no drive/reverse 1,2,3. goes in park and neutral fine.
i will make sure the converter is still bolted to the flywheel this afternoon.
if it is, i'll bring the car to your shop. next week.

Dreweter,

Mine did the same thing when the pump in the converter (form the texas ac )departed and killed the whole trany .....hope You have better luck.....time to pull the pan and look :frown:

OUCH! the converter is still bolted and turning. I'll post the mode of failure for the archives.

The noise could well have been a crack in the pump rotor as well. When it went south on you it would go along with a pump failure. Let us know.
