Smoking, But Why?

Is it possible for a stock turbo to work fine on one car and smoke on another? The engine that the stock turbo was on did not smoke (stock engine 32k miles). The same turbo was put on a different car which the only difference was that the engine that was modified. It smoked at idle (bad). The modified car did not smoke with the turbo that was on that car before the change. Any reasons anybody can think of

Is the oil drain from the turbo to the intake valley clean and free flowing? Was there any lengthy sitting time on theis turbo before install that could have aided in drying out the seals? Only 2 things that come to mind here!?!?

I have heard that too much oil pressure can cause a turbo to smoke. Maybe that's what's happening with it on the modified car.

No time delay in while swaping the turbo's. Maybe it is the increase in oil pressure causing the smoking.

Is it smoking from the exhaust or from the engine bay? My have cracked the drain tube.
