Chicago got hit with a little snow overnite and as to be expected the majority of schools are closed. My kids school is open so I shoveled out a path to the trailblazer, knocked off about 10" off the hood and drove the brats to school. The wife was giving me a hard time because members of the "Herd" (other school moms) had already been burning up the phone lines this morning and collectively decided on their own that the kids should be off today regardless of what the school is doing. When I went to school we never got snow days, and there was no way my Mother would allow us to stay home because of a lil snow. By the way we live 3 blocks from the school. As I have mentioned before---another classic example of the pussification of America.

I wholeheartedly agree Mr. Rabbit.

My wife and I were just talking about this. We live 50 miles north of the big city of Spokane and all it's schools are shut down whereby all out small town schools up here are open.

The news in the last week has had "BREAKING NEWS" constantly running. MORE SNOW IN THE FORECAST. SAVE THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN.

We live between the Rockies and the Coast Range....it's supposed to snow. But these days it's breaking news.

When they see a flake (and it's not election time) over in the Seattle area the whole city shuts down, screaming in mass hysteria, with runs on the food stores.

The problem seems to be with the cities, flames fanned by the news. Country people just get on with their lives.

It was the blizzard of '78. The local paper up in my hometown in indiana as well as the indianapolis star ran stories last week. It was one of those "30 years ago today" type things. I remember it, but living in a small town, everybody got along just fine. There were enough snowmobiles around that nobody went hungry.
