Made ya look!

I was wonder what you guys use to wax your cars, do you use a machine (I have the Sears 8" polisher) or do you do it the old fashined way?

i usually do it by hand, my wife gave me a sears polisher for my Bday and when i used it there was a buttload of powder from the wax and it was hard as hell to get rid of. am i doing it right??

Orbital for some, by hand for others. Just depends. Not everything is a liquid, or some are just easier by hand.

I've become a big fan of the liquid spray waxes that come in the pump spray bottles. Most of the major vendors sell some version as a "detailer" wax. Last fall I did a full polish of Lisa's old 93 Regal. Since then after a wash I can just boost shine with a couple of sprays. It doesn't look like it is building up. No residue and it takes very little time. You can do the whole car with one towel.

Unless you are a professional using professional tools, a hand wax will always yield better results IMO than those orbital buffers. You've seen my cars I sell, right? Well, each one is HAND cleaned, HAND polished, and HAND waxed because the difference is significant. Plus, I use Zaino and other products which do not leave white residue behind.

Especially on black cars, kids, the hand wax method is still hard to beat. The thoroughness gets out more swirls, and you're able to better nourish the paint.

I wax/glaze, depending on which vehicle I am doing, by hand. The '87 Turbo regal, being original white paint and no clear coat seems to like glazing best. Whatever wax I try on it, it seems to streak. So I glaze it by hand, wash by hand, and use quick detailer practically every time that the car is taken out. It is soooo white. On my '02 Z06 vette, being new and factory silver paint I use a semi-paste, semi-liquid wax and it seems to do the trick. Wash by hand, and use quick detailer pratically every time that the car is out. But when parked beside the '87 white Turbo Regal, the silver Z06 pales in comparasion to the stunning '87 TR.

I did last year on the SC. It took about 2 hrs, but the result was amazing. 13 years of grit and crap removed. Probably should have this year with the spring cleaning, but I didn't since it wasn't really that bad.

Clay bar first then Zainos. Just look at Doug Hauser's cars. Stuff works great!

:D

Bob, you're just bucking for a big discount, arent'cha?

Concur on the use of clay bars--that is a CRITICAL step in the process. There is an ebay seller called MotoStorm or something like that who sells them. The more you buy, the cheaper they are. They don't work quite as good as Meguiar's or Mother's, but for the price, it's more than adequate.
