Is it possible to have a solid mid to low 12's streed GN running on regular street tires not DR's. If so whats an estimated cost.
Thanks
The Buick motor makes a lot of TQ. Regular radials limit how much TQ you can plant. Typically these cars wont MPH well, hence why they need the 60 foot advantage afforded by TQ.. to effectively apply this TQ you'll need tires or a very well prepped track. If you can learn to drive the carm, learn to control boost, it is possible to apply more power to the tires progressively.. hard to do if your a novice, hard to do even if your a pro
Low budget killer street setup..
1) Scanmaster
2) Fuel pump w/hot wire and adj fuel pressure reg
3) Work on exhuast.. hi-flow cat..catback. Cutout.. etc
4) tune-up and confirm all is well. Timing chain/valve springs may need addressing.
5) Adjustable waste gate actuator(HD)
6) The chip..you will need to decide what fuel you'll be using to make this decision.. and it is this decision that will make or break your combo. As you cannot run a high timing chip on low octane. With a stock turbo... high timing.
7) Decide on race gas or do alky. These come after the chip decision.
8) The tire issue.. the stock turbo will not MPH well.. but make great bottom end power. I'd use a Nitto DR for an everyday tire. Anything less... it will roast them when you turn up the boost.
With tires... learn to tune the motor.. this will take days/week/months/years... but it is this that allows power to be made. resist temptation of bolting on anything before thorough thought process.
With an alky kit, alky chip, drag radial, stock turbo, stock engine, in proper tune.. 108-110 MPH is possible.. the fastest stock turbo car I know off ran 116.5 on 92 and alky.. lots of timing, lots of boost, on top of the tuneup. With 108 MPH and a bad 60 foot.. car will run 12.8's. With a good 60 foot.. 12.2's-12.4's pretty easy.
This is the recipe as I know it. The race gas is neat.. but O2 sensor issues, cost, and availability is an issue. If your not on good gas.. you cant run boost. Unless you use alcohol to supplement the octane..
