Using PPG Shopline. After the base coat was dry I sanded out some dirt nibs and exposed the primer. I feathered the area and shot it with high build primer. In 5 minutes the base coat edge begins to lift or bite. What causes this and how do I repair the area so it is flat and ready for the clear coat?

You will have to reapply the primer lighter the first few coats. Your basecoat has not catalyst to it. This will happen sometimes, PPG DBU has a catalyst in it so this would not be a problem their DBC line and such does not use a catalyst in it unless you add it to the reducer (dbx57 it think).

Bought a touch up gun and sprayed several thin coats and there was no biting. I thank you vary much. Great tip for novice painter such as I. The project can now move forward.
