I hope this is not too bad for a first attempt, Should I start over?

I have been dragging my feet on this project to the tune of about 9 months and got started a little to fast.

First my mistakes:

1) I put the pump bushing in and forgot to orient the seam as directed in the ASTG guide. It is about 75* to the right.

2) I have an 082 pump body and I did not drill the drain back hole to relieve pressure on the front seal.

3) I did not red locktite the seal in place - just pressed it in.

4) I was able to hold everything in place without the use of trans-gel. I noticed that it is recommended to use cam lube in the rotors of the pump. Is this a red? Can I use petroleum jelly in place of the trans gel?

Thanks for the help,

1) seam not a real big deal

2) asking for a leak

3) ditto

4) vasiline is fine

it's up to you if you wanna "roll the dice" with it.

Thanks Mark, the gamble is my dilemma. I guess I am not nuts for not pulling it and doing it over with red loctite.

No gabmble got another seal for $5.10.

Also got some red loctite; could not find red cam lube, but I do have some red hi temp hi pressure grease from Chem Lube - should I just use vasiline?

Also where do I make the holes or slots for the return reliefe in the 082 pump body/088 pump cover?

Where is Bruce I need to talk to him about CA.

TIA,

vasiline is fine, cam lube just has better breakin properties. the drain back hole if that is what you are refering to is the hole right behind the seal, drill it a 1/4" down 'til it makes a 90 deg. trun then drill from the other side 5/16", then find the matching hole on the stator side and drill it out too.

Bruce where are you??? prolly at home snuggling the cats or something... LOL!!!

What is wrong with using Sealed Power cam lube? It is just a different color (green)! I notched my pump and punched the bushing into the notches like Chrysler did on the 727. I used red locktite on the bushing and seal. And used a 700-4r seal retainer! Aah, paranoia is good stuff! :)

nothing as far as I know, should work fine.

a 690 pump body is all we ever use around here as it has a machined step to eliminate bushing ejection from the pump.also get a teflon coated pump bushing.

I is...

right here.. Just yell.
916-952-9567 cell. if needed immediatly.

as far as Ca. Until Davis is either recalled or assasinated... stay the hell away....ROFL...
Let me know..BT

Nothing urgent. About CA, I already came and went. The woman wanted to do some sightseeing in S.CA making time short for a visit to your shop.

When we got back I read about an injury you had to your hand - Hope you are OK! I was just thinking, damn, if I had come by you might have been doing something different that day

Anyway, thanks for the invite. I definitely wanted to check things out and get a lesson on the servo install. I will try to find an excuse to get out there someday.

where do they reccomend you position the seam in the bushing ?

2 o'clock position when facing the front of the pump.

so this means if im looking in to the pump with it standing streight up as it would be mounted in the trans that the seam should be at the 2 o clock position?
