First off hello to everyone I'm new here. I have been reading a lot of posts recently and I must say I have learned so much.I am posting here because nobody can help me and you seem to know many things so here goes

First off I have an 86 Monte Carlo SS no longer stock ect. ect. 200R4
My questions are

Awhile back I installed a Lokar TV cable (Girlfriend threw out the instructions, but I can tell you it is nothing like the GM) it shifts pretty good as is. I just read that a 200R4's TV Cable should have a travel of 1 & 1/8". I wanted to try this measurement and see if it works. Does anyone know how to get this measurement? What if I loosen the stop at the bracket, pull the cable until it stops, measure from the bracket to the stop, tighten the stop do I have my measurement or am I way off.

Here's the text from the instructions.

If you need to see the illustrations, I can e-mail them to you.

Caution: Do not remove braided housing from transmission tube. We recommend using an anti-seize compound on all aluminum nuts before final tightening.

Note: This cable will not mate with factory TV cable brackets. Use the supplied bracket.

Installation

1. Install the supplied carburetor bracket on the rear base carburetor mounting hole.

2. Thoroughly clean the cable opening on the transmission, being sure that it is free from all debris.

3. Slide the cable hold down bracket over the transmission tube as shown in Figure 1.

4. Install the transmission tube without o-rings and inner cable. Using the M6 x 1.0 button head cap screw and split lock washer, bolt the cable to the transmission case.

5. Install the adjuster bracket to the carburetor bracket on the carburetor as shown in Figure 2 using the #8-32 button head cap screw and the 5/16-18 x ½" bolt and mating Nylon-insert locknuts.

6. Remove and re-install the transmission tube with inner cable and o-rings in place. Be sure to engage the transmission TV rod in the cable eyelet. To insure against leakage, add a small amount of silicone around the transmission tube above o-ring. Tighten the hold down bolt to 75 inch-pounds.

7. Install the cable pivot stud on the carburetor throttle linkage. IMPORTANT: The cable geometry is extremely critical in order to have proper part-throttle operation as well as proper WOT pressures and downshifts. See Figure 3.
a. Set the cable adjustment at about half of its travel.
b. Pull the cable until it stops and adjust the cable stop such that the cable end is extended past the throttle shaft centerline as shown.
c. Note that the distance from the throttle shaft to the cable end is referenced in Figure 3. This distance must be between 1 7/64" and 1 1/8". (Depending on your carburetor make and model, you may have to modify the throttle linkage to accommodate the TV cable pivot stud's correct positioning.) Mount the pivot stud to the carburetor and snap the cable end onto the pivot stud.

8. Make final adjustments. When the TV is properly adjusted you should be able to open the throttle to wide open position and there should be no slack in the TV cable. At closed throttle, there should not be any pressure exerted on the TV plunger in the transmission.

9. Double check to be sure that all carburetor and throttle linkages operate freely without binding, then test drive. Under moderate acceleration your shift points should be close to the following: 1-2 @15-20 MPH, 2-3 @ 25-30 MPH, 3-4 @ 40-45 MPH. Once TV is correctly adjusted and operating properly you can cut off the excess cable beyond the cable stop.

Thanks I checked everything out and that all matches.
But how do I get this 1 & 1/8 measurement? I still can't figure that part out.
