Decided to take the car out Saturday for a little drive on the back roads. Not far from the house there is long flat stretch so I decided to air it out a little. Car pulled really hard and then @ about 110 mph I blew a front tire. I was amazed to see rubber fly past the window but the car was still going straight. Pulled into a farmers drive and got out to see the entire tread had flown off leaving only one ply remaining. With the tire still holding air, I limped home. Not sure what I did right to deserve such a break but I know I avoided quite a disaster. Now I can justify buying some ET Fronts. They look way better anyway.

The tread tore up my inner fenderwell pretty good and beat the heck out of my drivers side door. There's a lot more filler in my doors than I thought. It's still a lot better than what could have happened.

Someone was looking out for your indeed. You must have done something right. Glad it all worked out ok for you and the car. :D

Well, if your going to run MT fronts on the street, you better hope whoever was looking out for you, keeps it up. I don't believe those are made to run on the street.

wow you are very lucky. someone was watching over you for sure. This should be a reality check. make sure you always have good tires.

Glad that you made it through unscathed.

What make & model of tires were on the front?

Also how old were the front tires?

I just put new ones on mine because they were over ten years old. Still had 3/4 tread (on the fronts anyway) and had no weather checking but they would get out of round easily after just a couple weeks and it took 5-6 miles for them to quit vibrating. It's easy to forget how old a set of tires can be on a weekend cruiser. Glad you're okay.

You guys are all right. I should have paid more attention to the tires but it is easy to forget about them on an occasional driver. They were off of my friends firebird and they were about five years old. They had well over half tread left and had no wear problems or round issues. I can't recall what brand they were but they were an off brand.

As far as the ET fronts go, I only put about 200-300 miles a year on the car, mostly easy miles to cruises, golf and the grocery store, so I'm not really worried about them. Then again, I wasn't worried about the other tires either. Maybe it's time to get another set of wheels and tires for the front and just swap out for trips to the track.

you picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel (or was that lucille?)

" not sure what i did right to deserve such a break ...... "

actually ..... like all of us, it's nothing you did.
it's called GRACE
glad you're safe.
