So NJturbos, let me see if this is right. A child is born, and has some complications. He or she only lives a couple days, then dies. This child cannot go to heaven because it did not "know jesus"? Thats fair.

I'm not NJ but... wrong. Each person is different. Some come to the age of accountablity at a young age...some older. A child that is just born or say a two year old for example does not understand sin and the need for a savior. The same goes for mentally challenged, etc.

I could never place faith in a book written by man, nor could I be persuaded to believe in something by another man, unless he has real proof. Proof I can see, feel, and hear.

No one has ever seen evolution, but believe in it based on science books...that are written by men.

I think churches anymore have become businesses. Too many are all about money. Could someone explain to me why all these new churches need to be so elaborate? Would it not serve god better to build a modest church, and spend the rest of that money on people who might actually need it? I mean, heaven forbid they just use the "old" church. It didn't have all the amnemities of the new one. Church used to be about worship, and faith. Now its a joke. I know people who go to church because they think it will "cancel out" their sins. If those people go to heaven because they believe, I'd rather not be there anyway.

I agree.

I don't understand how one can have such firm beliefs when there are so many possibilities? How do you know you are right?
It's that way in every aspect of life. The only advice I can give is for a person to test everything. When doing so, don't go into it saying, "I'm gonna prove it wrong...i'm gonna prove it wrong." Go into it saying, "All I want is the truth."

Because the preacher said so?
Nope. lol Some of my biggest battles have been with preachers and deacons. :)

Because your parents said so?
Nope. My parents weren't believers. I maybe went to church twice in my life untill 5 years ago and I really hardly remember anything about it other than it was very dull.

I'll bet all the native americans are upset to know that there ancestors are in hell because Columbus didn't get here fast enough to save them. Interesting read on the other post.

Columbus wasn't sent here to spread the gospel. It's not required that you hear a preacher to know the truth.

God has created so many people just to send them to hell
God doesn't send anyone to Hell. Matter of fact, hell wasn't even created for people...but there are people there.

Yes, but based upon proven fact...not parted seas and the walking dead.

Why is it that the 'goodguys' have always had the highest death counts? (Crusades, Witch trials...etc.) If the opposition is so evil, why don't we hear of the time when 'devil-worshippers' roamed the land torturing christians. How come in Salem it wasn't a pack of those evil heretics burning people alive at the stake? In fact, howcome the only example the church can come up with to prove how sick the 'devil-worshippers' are is the occasional nut....?

Notice how the humble, neighbor-loving nice guys, as soon as disagreed with, turn immediately to condecension?

And why do you read of those in biblical times actually witnessing miracles, but nowadays.....nothing. Was it not easier to have 'faith' when you in person saw the dead walk?

Dammit, you've won. I'm doing what I always say I wont do.....I'm arguing intangibles again....

Does anyone know where I can get me a "Racin' for Jesus"license plate? I had no luck on E-bay.;)

I can't help you with that, but I tell you what.....My loser brother-in-law has the bumper sticker that says: 'Real men love jesus'. In response, a local shop here is making me one that says: 'Real men don't love men' You can have one if you want!:D

Bingo Old Testament teaches us that Children are with the Lord, until they reach the age of accountability. Here are some great links that maybe will help the people who are searching.

Fact? Its called theory even by it's author.

Religion has killed many people. I guess because mankind is involved and all we do is screw up. I'm not much on religion myself.

The faith of atheism has also taken a huge number of lives also. Just look at the holocost that Hitler set force. Read the biography of Hilter and you will seen many, many reference to Friedrich Nietzche whos strong anti-thiest believe ran parallel with Darwin, mainly On the Origin of Species

And why do you read of those in biblical times actually witnessing miracles, but nowadays.....nothing. Was it not easier to have 'faith' when you in person saw the dead walk?

Not everyone who saw believed back then and it would be even tougher to believe in todays society. Personally, I have witnessed a miracle not too long ago.

Dammit, you've won. I'm doing what I always say I wont do.....I'm arguing intangibles again....

It's not a fight, no one wins or loses. I do appreicate your input in the discussion though. Thanks.

What about the people who lived before christianity was invented? Do they burn in hell? Did all the egyptians go to hell because they believed in the wrong god(s)?

Soemthing tells me that God[or whichever supreme being you look up to,if any] knows who he wants on his side.
Judgement will be by deeds, not which book you read.

TurboMike, I tip my hat to you, sir. I loathe christianity, but occasionaly I meet a christian who can approach things in a very graceful and level-headed manner....and for some reason, that, to me, is rewarding. At first, the religious debate can be kind of fun, but after a few hours, one finds oneself hearing the same things they've heard a million times and saying the things they've said a million times and, for me, that gets old. I thank all who have participated here and hope (scratch that, KNOW) that when it comes down to it, we are all very 'here' for each other on this site. I would hate to see that tarnished by any one person's beliefs. To all a Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukkah (sp?) or just plain Good luck with the presents. We are all quite fortunate to have this arena to bad mouth eachother in!;)

Mike and I have butted heads a couple of times on posts like these, and I have to agree, he is very level headed when it comes to this subject.

You guys have taken this all wrong

This post was directed to a specific instance.
It was NOT about religion being stowed upon you. It was directed to an individual that STOLE from me, you as TB.com members and the board in general. A COMPLETE explanation that will all make perfect sense is yet to come in the next 48 hrs. I was trying to get "the person" to admit to what they did and come forth.
It didn't blow up in my face, it did what I wanted it to do. Do I beleive what I wrote? You bet. I live by it.
But, I in no way, had ANY intention of forcing it upon you or any of our members, but the theif.

I hope you understand and redirect this thread to a positive aspect for life, if it continues at all.

for those out there that make a mockery of the truth including myself a severe penalty and accounting for our actions will at some point in time be required.it is at this point i hope we will see that our reverse ,perverse and backwards thought process was not unlike a house built on sand,an unwise decision.and if we still dont get it then get ready to be absorbed into the blank and void time and space that awaits each and every fibre of our spiritual consciousness.in the grand scheme of things this life will mean nothing to us or to the life giver without total accountability and repentance.EVEN FROM ME.

I also would like to know the situation with this criminal you are talking about. Reading three pages of arguments to see who this guy is wastes a lot of time.

The 48 hour window has come and gone. Either post the facts as you stated you would or lock this thread. Enough of the religious rhetoric. Everybody..... believe in whatever the hell you want to believe in.

"Going to church won't make you a good christian anymore than standing in a garage will make you a car" Jeff Foxworthy

As an intelligent Athiest (I don't proclaim to know anything for fact), I must say that if any one religion is completely correct that nearly all the members of any other religion must then be wrong. Before someone tries to convince me that there is a God, waste your time convincing someone else who already believes in a God to believe in yours, and before you quote the Bible, understand that there are numerous other religions based on the same exact book with different beliefs so obviously you don't understand the writings you are attempting to quote anymore than someone from another religion.

If you want to say I am going to hell for not believing, I'll tell you that you stand a better chance of getting there than me as hypocricy is also a sin and is most often commited by those who attempt to preach the way of the Lord (admit it, you are just reading something, interpereting it in your own fashion, and then passing it on in the name of the Lord (which commandment was that, thou shalt not use the name of the Lord in vane)). So tell me, who commits the most sin in their lives, someone who doesn't believe (or discount) and tries to be the best person they can, or someone who mocks the bible to attempt to make up for their sins.

Now I remember why I don't get into religious discussions very often, because nobody can be proven right and everybody can be proven wrong.
