I just bought a new Sony handycam. Model DCR-HC28. It wasn't too expensive so I figured why not. One question is that it didn't come with a USB cable to plug into my computer. It came with the audio/video cables that plug into the camera and then into the TV or VCR, etc.

Can I buy a USB cable that will hook up to my computer so I can upload the video from the recorder to my computer?? My PC has a dvd, cd burner so I hope this will be compatable so I can burn dvd's.

Im new to this stuff.

Thanks.

Yes, you can buy a USB cable at the local Staples/Office Max store. You'll need an A/Mini-B cable. Don't rely on the sales guy to know...he only makes $6 / hour and probably isn't out of high school.

Actually I looked all over today and asked some people questions but I don't think I can actually upload from the camcorder to my pc. I would say it would almost have to it has 2 ports to hook up cables to.

The one guy I talked to said that you can't hook that camcorder up directly with your pc. What?? Is there some kind of adapter to look for?? I found the A/ mini b cable and thats not the right one.???

i.LINK® DV Interface

From Sony's website...
i.LINK® DV Interface:
A digital high-speed bi-directional interface which provides Audio/Video communication between two compatible devices. This connection allows for pure digital transfer between devices equipped with an IEEE1394 interface, such as camcorders, digital VTRs, capture cards and PCs.

So, if your pc has the 1394, it looks like it should be able to.
Cables here:
Category Page Cables
Looks like Best Buy carries one:
Sony - 5' IEEE 1394 i.LINK 4-Pin to 4-Pin Cable - VMC-IL4415
Make sure of what your pc has connection-wise before you buy...

Does it record to a tape, dvd or a memory card?

I had the same issue. Wanted all the cool vids on my computer. I took the K.I.S.S. approach. I needed a new DVD player, so I went to Wal-Mart and bought a DVD player/recorder for $145. Now, I burn my mini-dv tapes to DVD, then put'em right into the computer and save from the DVD to my hard drive. Maybe not the most technical way, but ti works:smile: .

Derek is correct and that is how you have to do it. I'm afraid given the camcorder you bought, there is no other way to move the file to your computer.

Good Luck!

I have a buyer for it already. A buddy of mine wants a camcorder so I sold it to him for what I paid for it and now I will do a little research on which one I want.

Thanks for the help!!!
