Can i get your views on the best source for an IAC motor. Kirban appears to have them for $68.95 which is a lot better than the $200 being asked for in Canada. Kirban often does not differentiate between 1986-87 which they specialize in, and the 84-85 which often has different parts.

Bottom line - I am looking for an IAC motor for my 1984 GN. Once found I hope to have it shipped overnight without the UPS type broker fees.

The 84/85 IAC is not the same as the 86/87 dimensionally. If you
change housings as well as the IAC, then they interchange.
Before someone tells me that they look the same (They do.), they
are different, I have measured them side by side.

Right you are!!
Many shops carry the one for 86-87 but the only folks who show a different one for 84-85 claim up to five days delay getting it from ACDelco. Right now I have Highway Stars looking for me.

Thanks

Please keep that in mind. I will continue to look today and if i find nothing (Rock Auto says five days then a week to ship) I will post again.

Why not buy a complete 86/87 IAC off the board and switch
it out? Just curious, because once changed, you can't tell if it is an
84/85 or and 86/87 on the car. Just MHO.

I must be to damm old. But this the dumbest answer I have seen since yesterday. The 84/85 parts are different than the 86/87 when it comes to the IAC. The bigger mistake is using an 86/87 crank sensor on an 84/85. Maybe I am senile now.

Maybe it is the purest in me, but, I am trying to keep my '84 as original as possible. I have owned it since '88 and I am really attached to it.

I have sourced one locally and will have it in a week.

I happen to know that my answer is correct.
I had both in my hands and may in fact have to
86 on my 84 right now. The bolt pattern is the same on the 86
IAC hosuing and looks the same. yes, the crank sensor has a longer
pig tail on it and is different.

I'm realoly sorryif I offended anyone.
I won't risk it anymore, so I will never post on this
board again. Good bye.

C'mon guys - no one knows everything about all years. There is a ton of shit that is different between my 84 and the rest of the years. The discussions just help everyone realize that. Don't ever go away just because opinions differ. I really appreciate every discussion. I took part in a vin discussion regarding when my car was made and it seems I was wrong when i thought mine was the 72nd off the assembly line just because the vin ended in 0072 (whole number 550072). I felt stupid but at least I learned something, and I still keeping checking the board for new stuff.

Now if only the dealership could find where the miss in my engine is coming from.
