Since the search funtion isn't working yet...

Looking at building a double pumper setup from scratch. Anyone use a Spectra fuel sending unit with success?

Does the N/A sender work OK, or do you have to get the turbo one? Thinking of putting AN lines on the end for use with E85.

Have never seen the Spectra unit, a link would be helpfull, you can add the AN lines by using AN compression fittings from Sweet Performance:cool:

The RobbMc unit can be had with the AN lines pre-installed...

Hey Mike! Just noticed your post, long time no hear. How's life?

Ive used the Spectra sending unit from AZ (Vato Zone:D) it reads the correct ohms and is a bolt in.
If the search function starts working then you can see a thread I made up.
Only issue is the geometry is off some on the float arm, so it actually reads right on full vs. the factory one that goes past "F".
The flipside is on "E" you have 5 or so gallons left which is cool for me because its best to not drive with less than 5 gallons in the tank any way IMO.
Not sure on making a DP out of it

Last I read that is to be used with an external pump only???

Looks like internal pump(s) could be built to fit, if they'd go through the tank opening. As with most anything, fabrication might be required...

This is not an easy task. If trying to use dual pumps you have to skew the pumps relative to the single pump location or they wont fit in the tank with the fuel level sender still in place . So you will need a coupler or Y fitting, mods to the sender cutting off the original piece the pump sits on and a new piece made that will accept both pumps and bolt to the return line on the sender. Its not worth the time to do it imo. If you are going to make over 500hp with E85 you really need to rethink the fuel delivery. id forget about the factory style sender

like this one on a GM hanger

The big problem there is the size of the top of the sender. That wont work in an efi tank. You could modify it for use with intank pump(s) but woudl also need to add the extra wiring for the pumps

Also I guess I never asked but how much will the factory lines out of the sender support HP wise. I guess the main restrictions are in the saginaw (sp?) fittings?

The crimp cuts the i.d. down to .230 on some of them. They can easily be drilled out to .280. The sender is necked down quite a bit where the pulsator is supposed to be. That can be cut off or drilled out to .280 also

Thanks for the replys guys.

Bison, have you had a chance to check out Racetronix's stuff?
Racetronix - DPC-G7 - Double Pump Coupler G7 CNC Billet Alum

Racetronix - Dual Pump Mounting Bracket GSS340M / G77

Just got done a couple weeks ago doing this...using a Spectra sending unit with the Racetronix double pumper kit. I haven't put in yet but I'm confident it'll work just fine. However I am not running E85, just 91 pump gas. All the wiring is Racetronix as well.

Rodney please let us know how well that dp slips into your tank.

I purchased one of those Spectra in tank hangers, and with a single Racetronix Walbro pump, it was a bit interesting to get in the tank...in fact more difficult than the stocker...due to the float arm i believe....but i got it in w/o any mods done to the tank. (I've read of people bending up the tank lip to get it in)

Also on mine, the gas gauge I think always goes past F on fill up then drops down to 7/8 of a tank the first 5 miles of normal driving.

Wow that looks great! What are you plans for controlling the second pump? Please update the thread once you get it installed (any tricks :)) and let us know how it works.

For the 2nd pump I'm gonna use a 15 psi hobbs switch thats in the Racetronix wiring kit.

A couple of minor things so far...the yellow bulkhead connector supplied by Racetronix needs to be filed down a bit on the side so it'll clear the feed tube and sit flat. Otherwise it'll sit crooked and not seal properly and will leak.

That check valve thing at the end of the vent tube needs to be removed to make installing the billet coupler easier as it gets in the way. Once you have everything oriented correct it can go back in.

I'll keep you guys updated when I get it installed.:)
