I went out to the Bonneville Salt Flats last week to watch the racing. We hooked up with my Buddy's friend George Poteet. George runs two completely awesome cars. One is a Blown gas streamliner called "Speed Demon". The other is a Blown gas modified coupe called "Blowfish". Both are powered by Mopar Engines.......but there is a tie-in to the Buick Community.

Take a look at the picture and Guess who was tuning the Speed Demon? Packard 003.jpg

George Poteet is the guy on the right.

Later while poking around in their pits, I discovered Dale Cherry was tuning the Blowfish!!! The Blowfish was built by Troy Trepanier of "Rad Rods by Troy" Troy was on hand to crew the car as well.

I saw the Speed Demon run a 419 Mph pass and the Blowfish set a world record at 299.9 Mph. Needless to say, Bonneville is one of the most unique racing venue's on the planet. There weren't any Buick Engines in any of the race cars.......but there were a few Nailheads in cool street/rat rods.

I was there and saw both of those cars....and Kenny D! The salt flats were wild! Dave were you there when the Speed Demon took off? If so, I probably crossed paths with you, even though I have not idea what you look like.. I took my dad out there - he is a studebaker nut, and was pleased to see a few studes still running out there.

Nate, I was indeed at the starting line several times when Speed Demon/Blowfish made their runs. I tried to wear "Buick" shirts everyday at the track.

We also positioned ourselves down track between mile 4 and 5 markers to see them FLY by. Sorry we didn't cross paths. Did you see that Blown Gas Studebaker pickup? The guys were from Kanasas and had one nice truck. It was a record holder as well. Very cool.

This was my first time to Bonneville, but not my last!!!! Did you go and see the "Boys of Bonneville" film premier? That was also very cool!!

Nice pics!!

An old friend of mine is heading back to Bonneville to try and break the land speed record, Danny Thompson.
He is modifying one of his dad's old bonneville cars.

I was there in 2008 for the first time. It was great! I highly recommend it. I'll go back soon (but I can't believe it's been 3 years already.)

I thought about asking on the boards to see if anyone else was going, but never got around to it....Yeah we saw the stude truck - that was really slick. I didn't know about the "Boys of Bonneville" film, although i wish i did - we would have seen it....I wondered why everyone had those shirts on!!!!

I just went to the drug store and saw The Blowfish trailer at Troy's shop. I live like 3 blocks from his shop. Very cool car. What did it run?

Before I left on Monday the Blowfish ran 299.9MPH which set a new world record. The car was only running on 7 cylinders because of a bad plug wire. I am sure they improved on that before it was all over. The Blowfish ran over 314 MPH on another run when they broke a transmission. I couldn't stay to see the following runs.

This was my first visit to Bonneville and it was awesome. Anyone who is interested in fast cars MUST go at least once before you die. Definitely a "Bucket List " must do.
