NY almost still looked like this early last May! I will never forget or stop cursing the winter of 14-15 .

I had a good three feet up this way that lasted for a few months. I shoveled out a bobsled track for the kids to sled "in" on the hill in the back yard.

We've been pretty lucky the last 2 years as far as snow storms go . They have been either west by Buffalo or way east , but 2014/15 winter was brutally cold even without the snow .

It's called "lake effect" snow , cold air picks up moisture from the "warm" lake and dumps it within 0-40 miles from shore . Buffalo gets it from Lake Erie and Syracuse & the Watertown / Tug Hill plateau area get it from Lake Ontario . Tug Hill gets buried every year . One year on the "hill" ,Barns Corners got over 500" of snow !
