Well ever since I bought this 85 t-type i cant figure out why it sputters and misfires under boost. it also throws oil from the dipstick and black smoke out the pipes. Is the engine gone or is it bad timing? I also ordered a turbo tweak chip to see if maybe it can help it.
Ive checked......MAF,PCV valve, changed wires, installed 237 regulator. the car came stock with 3inch up and down pipes. Please help any ideas?:frown:

Can be anything from spark plugs gapped to wide, to cam sensor needs to be stepped up or back if the car has a larger than stock cam. Be patient find the problem, try not to by parts until you try everything else.

Thanks I havent tried the cam sensor yet. I just bought a cam tool. Is is easy to adjust the sensor?

I doubt your problem is the cam sensor. This sensor is used to tell the ECM what the position is for number one cylinder as I recall. It is used for starting the car. Once the car is running you can even disconnect the cam sensor.
The easiest way to adjust the cam sensor is to remove the IGN coil module along with the bracket. Good luck. Brad

Before you go any further, do a compression test, and make sure the block is vented. :frown:

The coilpack is not new but has been replaced by previous owner, its not really grounded that good but it does turn on.

Alright guys I installed the turbo tweak chip and very good idle reesponse, but my boost issue still around. I removed my oil fill tube and pressure was coming out the valve cover.it sounds bad, will i need a full rebuild or just head work? may be just a bad valves. I need your advise cold air swap or rebuild?

Maybe you need to do a compression test first and if they are all about within 10%(I have no idea what they are supposed to read, 150??) do a leakdown test. Just my $0.02.

The excess crank case pressure at idle is highly unlikely due to valves (I ass-u-me you mean intake/exh valves)
There will be some pressure pulses at the valve cover but, oil out of the dipstick tube is "the sign of" and will result in more serious problems than you think.

What is your performance goal and what is your budget?

Im trying just to make it a daily driven low 14s or high 13s car. If i cant narrow it down its gonna have to sell. So i can concentrate my money on my 87 GN. I dont have a compression tester and in using ac delco 42s cold plugs is that cool?

With pressure coming out the valve covers
I would say Head Gasket
Any wet plugs?
Any steam coming from the valve covers?
Need to do compression test
Get one.

For sure i will pick one up. some of the plugs were just black fron un-burned fuel. Once I complete the test I will get back with tou guys thanks.

Ok the compression is good. I did notice that the coil pack is only bolted down on the manifold. the bolt by the drivers side is not could that effect the cars reason for its crappy stumple?

What are the numbers from the compression test?
The coilpack ground is VERY important.
Having said that, you still have excessive crankcase pressure. (I won't mention it again  )

My mechanic said they were normal compression numbers and it might timing issue or the firing order is wrong. I check the cam sensor with the cam tool and the green light was on. I did notice that one of my crank sensor wires is exposed.
