How do I get rid of all this spyware crap??? Out of the blue I'm getting all this spyware crap popping up all over the place. When I'm surfing the web, it takes over... Any help on this stuff???
Thanks:mad:

Ad-aware can clean up the mess that's on your computer, but without a popup blocker, you get re-infected easier unless you pay REALLY close attention. The popup blocker won't do much to stop the ones that occur as a result of being infected. I'm pretty careful, and I still occasionally accidentally get something. Usually, you're typing away in another browser window, or MS Word or something, and a popup springs to the front, you hit the space bar, which answers yes to one of their installation requests, then you're hooked. Some of them install several.

Ad-aware will only possibly help with some pop-ups. If you have spyware, tojans, etc... it won't do anything.

Go to download.com

Ddownload, update and run CWShredder.

Then go to download.com, download, update and run Spybot- search & destroy.

No more problems.

Yep,

Somtimes the are called "drive-by-downloads". Maybe you have seen the windows dialog bos that asks if you want to install software from Gator? Most people hit "yes" because they think you need to hit yes otherwise you can't get to the webpage.

I have seen many computers where there is a pop-up "server" (so to speak) that runs as a service on you computer. If you don't know much about windows services, find someone who does (like me) the key is to eliminate the services which requires messing with the registry, which is like messing with the ECM on a Turbo Buick.

Are you running windows XP, 98??

Stay off the porn sites! :D

These are great:

Shredder
HiJackThis
AdAware
Spy Sweeper
Ad Muncher

I have them all! Run HiJack this, Shredder, AdAware, Spy Sweeper , Ad Muncher in that order. Spy Sweeper will pick up things AdAware doesn't. Ad Muncher knocks them all out and gives you protection.

Change your ActiveX and Java settings so they don't allow scripts to run without your permission. That is how you get the spyware in the first place.

Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom Level

Disable unsigned/not marked as safe ActiveX controls and active Java scripting.

Nick ,I had/have all the BS that is listed above, see my post here in the lounge about pop-ups,,there is a link to Mozilla, works awesome so far,,not one single pop-up inlike 5days,before I would get 10per min.

Just keep in mind that with Mozilla, you may occasionally hit a web site that uses Internet Explorer Active X features or plugins and something may not work. I use Mozilla most of the time, but I still need to keep my default set at IE - I use Microsoft related technical sites a lot. For most people though, I'm guessing you'll rarely see a problem. Mozilla is great.
