What kind of front cover is used on a stage one block? I'm thinking a 84-85 front cover since they were on the 14 bolt oil pan blocks?

78 to 85 is more like it unless you find a factory special. Buick did make a special cover but it requires an external pump for the oil.

Charlie1-areyou referring to the #0169 stage2 front cover or is there a different one?

There are 2 different covers used on the stage engines for racing. The one used on the Indy cars has mounts on both sides for pumps and the other is from Buick and is flat with no provisions for a pump. Looks kinda weird so you have to figure out how to mount wet or dry sump pumps. I don't have the part # for either though.

So the factory 78-85 will work if you are looking to have a factory type oiling system?

That's the one you need. Get one of Earls and you'll be good. Pricey yes, but well worth it.
