Stage II powerplant with Fiero umbrella

Thanks everyone. I have had only 3-hour garage sessions last few days, but todays timeframe seems better.
I just need to get it to run, to regain some motivation.

About the cooling, having the intake the right way will have hot cyl-s in #5 and #6. My problem is not bigger, but just on other cyl-s?
While I can't say on a stage block not owning one but the front pair of water riser holes are not drilled through on the block so you are depending on the single pair between 1/3 and 2/4 to cool the entire front cylinder. The rear deck is drilled for water holes on both sides of the cylinder bore. I'd be afraid of a hot spot in the fronts of the cylinder heads since the cooling flow has to go around the chamber to even get to that area. Not saying it's catestrophic but I'd want to pay attention to it to ensure that it doesn't become an issue.

Heh, I actually now understood how cooling inside block works. I always wondered what keeps the rear cyl-s cool, if water goes "straight up" from the pump inlets to head to crossover. So actually the missing holes witch I never have paid attention to limit the upward flow in front cyl-s.

Now, from some old pic:

There are enlarged steam holes and the hole on the exhaust side. So I should be good.

Awesome project, but I have a question....why was the intake reversed? Looks like there was plenty of room "in front" of the engine for turbo/intercooler whatnot.....

The intake is higher than the rear hatch and I need to have something to cover the engine. So I opted for the intake to be this way. Look at the pic of the car from the rear. Turbo and other things are stuffed towards the firewall for weight distribution. It will ride on the bars anyway, but the less, the better.

Meth would be the best intercooler, this combo can have.
There are no direct airflow available and there is no tapwater in the local strips, so water barrel would be a big pita also.

Sweeeeeeet!!!!

Awesome work, I am glad that you are motivated and getting things done. I bought my first Fiero in 2003 to do the exact same thing. I kept changing my mind form a 109 block/ TH 325-4L to production 4.1/325-4L to stage II/stage II headed/TH425 project.
I am so pumped to see this beast can do. When it's all done and over with, you may have the fastest Fiero on the plant. Have you posted anything over at Pennocks?

I will get mine done soon or later. I just pulled all my Stage stuff for the Fiero from one shop where it sat for almost three years to another shop. We will see how long it would take.
I am sure I will be bugging you with the reverse rotation questions and cradle modifications. Thanks for sharing!!!!!

Great Job

I'm trying to be motivated, it has been a long journey.
I have a thread at pennocks, but can't update all for lack of time.
All the swap pic's are available here. about same amount more in my computer. Feel free to search for ideas/solutions and ask.

About the 425, If I would do it again, I would choose 325-4L and modify it for 325 or 425 chain. Why? 'cuz riviera had this powertrain and it would be a ton easier to mate the trans and engine and get the stub shaft worked out. I would just order the trans from one of this boards 200R4 specialists since the internals are the same.
There is one picture that motivates me all the time... Just buy the GN power source manual and look at the inside of front cover:) Thats THE package that needs to be in a Fiero.

Thanks Fog!! I do have two 325-4Ls and two 425s on hand. I would like to see I how well your 425 holds up. I am all over the place, one day I want to work on the Fiero then the next day something else and what I've learned from all that is; never start another project before you get the first one completed. If you do, you will end up like me, Nothing gets done!! I am going to look though your build.

Thanks again
Prasad

First time at testing at test&tune day: 11.8 @ 114
0 boost, lifting at 1-2

Another test day with one start. This trans fluid leak is getting to me, grrr...

Anyhow, half a second shaved, 11.35 @ 126

Nice going Fog! What was the boost setting on this run?

Thanks

The boost went up and down since the solenoid appeared to be too small. But "area under the curve" as flattened was roughly 10psi altough it was 20psi at the end. That seems right at 400hp on the ground at 2600lb at 126mph
Anyhow, ignition was way retarded, no marks on the plugs what-so-ever etc etc.

I have not done much these past weeks, all the time has been consumed by this beast. It fired up yesterday:)
This weekend is the first championship event, and we both plan to go. We'll see how that works out.

Got the weight also, I'm way disappointed right now. It was 2600 pounds with me and gear. I'm 350lb over the class minimum.
