My bone stocker 87 runs perfect....I bought it about a year ago from a guy in bad health after it sat for 8 years...got everything squared away that was needed and enjoy driving it, however, I'll drive it a bit and stop for a red light and it'll stall out....or I'll drive under speed then let off the gas and coast at like 45-50 mph and it will stall out. The scanmaster shows everything is squared away, no MAL codes and no knock.......whaddya think I should check?

I would remove the IAC motor and clean it out with some carb cleaner. Sounds like it's plugged.

I will keep that in mind also, but what I was asking is were is the IAC motor?

Thanks,
Joshua

It could be the egr valve. Mine had the same problem and I found that the egr valve was stuck slightly open. Took it off, cleaned it and the intake passage and it cured the problem.

stalls

Well, I took the IAC out and cleaned it good, then went for a hour and 15 minute drive. When I got off the main highway after speeds of steady 70 mph, the car stalled several times going light to light. Luckily each time the car starts right back up. Brian at G-Bodyparts.com thinks it might be the fuel sock in the tank, especially after sitting 8 years, or a vacuum line...but like I said initially, the car runs great and is fun to drive until after driving a bit it stalls out coasting to a red light or sitting at one.....I gues I'll try cleaning up the EGR valve :frown:

let us know what u find, i am gonna try it on mine cuz its doing the same thing

Joshua

Sounds like your TCC solinoid/sw is bad. It's in your transmission.
It controls the torque converter lockup and unlocks.

stalls

...already changed the in-line fuel filter and ran a whole tank of 93 octane to get things run through...so I'll try the sock, EGR and then maybe the TCC solenoid...somebody's gonna be the big winner....any more bets?

So.....what was it

Did you fix it? :)

I had a problem with my stock 87 stalling after I let off the throttle. I took the MAF out, and it was so dirty you couldn't even see the resistor. I cleaned the whole assembly with electronics cleaner and my problem went away.

Good luck.

still not fixed, but that last anecdote sounds like the ticket...will let y'all know ;)

stall update

Well, I used electric spray cleaner on the MAS...no luck...even changed out the MAS...still no luck. I drive it, runs good, but still stalls when coming to a stop or when I stop. All the scanmaster numbers are right on  This is really getting frustrating. Brian thinks it's a collapsed fuel sock, so thats my next approach............... :frown:

Glen, You could figure out if its a fuel problem with a fuel preasure gauge. Run it up to the windshield where you can watch it and take her for a ride. You'll know then.

Does it stall sitting at idle parked or just when your driving?

stall

...it seems fine til about 3-4 miles of driving, then that's when the stall prob kicks in, but only when drifting down speed to a stop after letting off the gas, or if it did'nt stall yet, then it will when coming to an idle stop.......thanks to the board for the patience of this contantly re-appearing thread
