I started my GN today and the outside temp is 30 degrees F. My idle pressure was 70 psi and climbs as I brought the rpms up. The car has an adjustable oil pressure regulator. After the car comes up to temp WOT pressure is 60 psi. My question is 70psi too high for a cold idle pressure and as I drive it goes up from there . As long as I keep it under 2000 rpms it will not go over 80psi. Should I lower the relief set point?

It is ok,the oil is thicker when cold and makes more pressure.Just like putting the maple syrup bottle in the fridge! DO NOT WING THE THROTTLE!! Let it idle till it starts to drop to around 30-40 then your good to drive it.NO WOT until it has dropped to normal.I love my GN in cold weather. The Powerstroke front mount really gets to work in 20 degree air.Give your ECM a chance to adjust as well.

What oil viscosity is being used? For 30ºF, I'd think a 5W-30 dino oil is appropriate, or even 0W-40 if using synthetic.

mines pegs more than 80 when cold atrt in 50' weather, warms around 15 minutes idle to @ 30psi....like everyone say,DO NOT ROMP THE GAS PEDAL,or HIT IT WHEN COLD, it can lead to engine failure !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! can't stress this enough!!!

i learn from experiences, i had a former vortech fed mustang, romp it when it was cold, and spitted out a rod in less than 5 sec into the hit!

10w-30. 20-22 psi at idle.
Sal, consider a 5W30 oil at your next oil change. Oil will flow quicker to bearings when cold; cold pressure will drop some (but dont know how much); and you will still have the same hot oil pressure as with your 10W30.

I ageree with these posts. Mine is high at cold startup with 5w-30 but comes down quick when driving it. I dont get on it till its down to around 50 psi at 2000 rpm. Maybe 0W-30 next time if i drive it for another month or so.
