I was just thinking the same thing. Plus I would love instructions on how to rebuild your column to get rid of the slop!!!

Column removal/installation is straightforward. Remove the intermediate steering shaft. There are four bolts at the firewall, and two nuts on the bottom side of the dash. Unclip the electrical connections and the column comes out. Easy peasy. It's a good time to do the Jeep steering shaft upgrade when it goes back together.
 
So why the jeep steering column? What year? Please explain?

And as for installation of a replacement column, it is pretty straightforward as mentioned earlier. Make sure you remove the pin retaining the shifter linkage before you unbolt the column from the firewall. I would also suggest removing the forward shaft and attaching it to the column and put the whole assembly through the firewall. Where the column meets the shaft is a tight fit and there isn't enough room to maneuver to join them in the engine compartment.
