Sticky 2-shift? sometimes flare, sometimes not

Anyone ever had this problem before? My tranny always flares real bad at part throttle for the 2-3 shift. However, at WOT most of the time it shifts pretty hard. But sometimes it will flare kinda bad. No change in combo at all. Haven't changed the tranny fluid in it yet since I got it, it looks and smells good.

Car in question is an 87 GN with a mild street setup, TE44@15psi, mild port heads, exhaust, etc etc. The tranny is an Art Carr (not sure what model?) with a n/l 16930 3000 stall Art Carr converter.

Any suggestions? Could there be something sticking in the tranny? Would a fluid change help?

If u are running the stock filter in the trans be sure and fill it 1 qt over. Should be up to the bend back and forth part of the dipstick. That will eliminate cavitation.
Also double check your TV cable to make sure it as tight as it can posibly be with out limiting WOT.
