I am an electrical engineer at a manufacturing company that makes fairly complicated automated spreading and cutting equipment.
A customer called with a problem with a very old machine at a location 3.5 hrs away. I normally only do real problem or emergency service calls. I drove down to take a look last thurs and found I needed to rewire a portion of the machine that would take about 2 days. I needed special tools, harness and plugs so I said I would prep them up and return this wed.
Early this week I asked the head of Manufacturing if I could take one of the electrical shop guys (union) to help rewire the machine since he is somewhat familiar with it and 2 of us could do it in a day instead of me spending the night and another day down there. Manufacturing guy said it was fine with him but could not make him go. Me and the shop guy get along good so he agreed to go with me.
Tuesday afternoon, the head of manufacturing comes down to the shop and asks the shop guy if he is going to go, (I was standing right there) and he said yes. Head of manufacturing asked when he'd be back and we told him thursday. He was under the impression wed be gone wed/thurs/fri, so was surprised when he heard wed be gone only one day.
Wednesday, we go down there and fix the machine up and get it running.
Left at 7am and get home at 11:50PM, loooong day.
This morning i go to work and hear all this talk about how pissed the head of manufacturing is at me because no one told him the shop guy was going!!!
I was beside myself, WTF. what a fin liar.
He went to the president,CEO anybody who would listen. I confronted my boss if he heard anything and he said that the manufacturing guy was mad and told my boss that I had never even asked him about taking the shop guy!!! My boss believed my story.
So tommorrow I have a meeting (that I called) with several bosses, all above me, about this.
Im so ticked I feel like just packing up and leaving. Been there 15 years.
I had a problem with this guy about 4-5 years ago but I have always kept it very professional with him.
sorry so long but my blood is still boiling..
