My car is running good now mods are te44,208/201 cam, thdp, atr catback, red 93chip 009 42.5 injectors rjc plate I want to run 19 or 20 psi with 93 octane (running 18-19 now) My question is how much is the stock intercooler holding me back? Will a Dutt neck really help alot? I would rather not spend anymore on mods unless I have to. Sorry so long Eric

Yes worth it if not planning on upgrading to another IC.Two to three lbs more boost can be achieved.

I installed a buickgn.com 3.5" intake tube, (but I still have a pretty small K&N on there) bellmouthed the inlet and outlet of my Dutt neck IC (even though the dutt neck is alot bigger, a sharp edge is still bad) before I installed it, and sawed the rolled lips off the up-pipe cause they look like they would be disastrous to air flow...especially hitting that huge lip right before it goes in the TB. I also used a deburring knife and carved a little radius at the TB inlet. I went from 14 to 18 psi with those mods. Probably 1psi was from the intake tube, 2 from the dutt neck and probably 1 from the up-pipe mods. You guys should pull that up-pipe off yours and look at it. Pretty terrible.

If you open airflow, in other words reduce pressure drop across IC.. the boost will now go up. But that doesnt let you cheat octane.

Stock IC is plenty for an 11 second car. Save your money for tires or something else.

Disprove me.. one week go to track, make three passes. Observe MPH and boost. Do the IC.. go back to track at same boost.. bet ya its the same MPH.

MPH=HP

And at 16-18 PSI... you are extremely limited by the heads and cam on the motor. So you can richen the car up.. get an extra 2 PSI boost.. but that doesnt mean its going to be faster.

Too many gimmicks.. the power in these motors is turbo, heads and cam... And Tuning :)

Kind of a little off topic, but in terms of best bang for the buck (HP for $) what order would you guys go with if on a budget? I'm speaking strictly from a HP/TQ point of view and not taking into consideration tires, suspension, or any supporting mods to go with the following. I'm thinking as follows (with intercooler mods at the end of the list):

1)race gas and/or alky injection

2)heads (port, polish, alum. heads, etc.)

3)turbo and converter combo

4)exhaust mods (test pipe, 3" DP, etc.)

5)fine tuning aids (WB, EGT, etc.)

6)intercooler mods

With a stock intercooler, the main issues are reduced flow and intercooler efficiency. Increasing the flow with a dutt neck should be enough on a stock headed car unless you really want to raise the boost to very high limits.

Intercooler efficiency is a bigger problem, along with heat soak in the summer and if you do many passes in a short time. An alky kit is probably the best thing for a stock intercooler. Virtually eliminates the heat soak and counters the inefficiency of the stock intercooler. I ran faster on alky than 116 with a stock intercooler.

I ran an 11.6 my only time at the track with a TE44 with alky with a dutt neck stock intercooler. I'm sure I could run an 11.4 with a little more tuning, boost, or better 60ft.

If you insist on running only 93 octane, a good front mount may let you squeeze an extra psi or two of boost without knock. Getting a progressive alky kit and running methanol would probably be cheaper and faster though. As far as tuning, I have an Turbotweak alky chip and Razors alky kit and the only thing I really had to do was add some fuel in the chip.

None of the above.

7)Heads and matching intake, turbo, Dutt neck IC or FMIC.
Easy 100-150hp.
But I would make sure you have all the basics first, like exhaust, tuning ability, alky, suspension that still has bushings on it.
