I'm sure this has been asked, but what turbo will act like the stock and spool quick without changing the convertor?

5857, 5831, 6031, 6131 with ball bearing cartridge will be close to stock on spoolup. Kind of a waste of $ IMO.

Changing the converter would increase the choices you have. A decent converter swap cost about the same as the ball bearing option.

Hello; I know you've been playing TB a long time so in your opinion what upgraded turbo is not a waste of $$$$? On a car with the usual add ons.

BB 58/57 in the .63 is about as fast of a spool with modern turbo technology as we have available for us. I assume you probably have a dead or dying stock turbo so I'd go that route. Keep in mind it flows A LOT more air than the stock turbo so if you do start going over 14-15psi on pump gas, you're going to need more fuel just in case you still have a lot of stock fuel system parts.

BTW, saw your sig, not sure the community should keep feeding you Buick cars, you tend to find a grave for them!!!

hello; I want to keep my turbo shield so I guess that's going to limit me even futher. I beleive the ta-49 is the only one is this true?

Thats not true. You can run a very large turbo and still run the shield. Anything with the TA designation will still look very stock with the shield. A good upgrade is a TE44/TA49. A 5857 for low 11's or a 6262 for mid 10's. The larger the turbine the more/better converter is needed to get anything out of the turbo. That and you have to have the rest of the "stuff" to get it done.
