Just curious how long these stockers will last?? Im know alot of things come into affect of the life of the turbo. But a car im looking at has 90k miles, stock motor with mild bolt ons. I do not know the bolt ons the car has of yet!!
Is there a certain mileage or time frame that these stockers dig there own grave?? Im trying to find out more info on the car! I just havnt seen many cars with the stock turbo's on them. When did you guys change them out? Did they crap out on you? Or what.. Any info you guys can give will be appreciated!!! Ill update the thread with info as soon as i find out!!

To the best of my knowledge, my car's stocker was original and at 132k it started to smoke last year so I replaced it. Paul put it on one of his cars after 'fixing' it. Not sure exactly what was needed. I was running 18#s for what it's worth....

So what are some key signs of a beat up turbo? Smoke upon startup? Smoke when building boost? What can happen if this is ignored? And is it worth rebuilding a stock turbo? I guess it would depend on my plans for the car right??
 
Mine smoked then stopped then when i brought the car out with a few mods (none boost related) no smoke but then after two weeks it quit buildin boost and seized all of a sudden... 112,000 miles
 
Remove the intlet tube to one,grab the rod of the impeller an shake it,you don't want alot of play. If turbo goes,they throw White smoke out the exhuast, an/or throwing oil into the intercooler,Easy to just rebuild unless you seriouly damged it an really need a new one

Alright... another question.... What are the limits of a stock turbo? lbs of boost ? How fast have cars gone with stock turbo's??
 
low 12s is not usually too hard at about 20-21psi , a few have dipped into the 11s ... ed brewer went 11.37 on a stock motor Ttype with razor alky injection

lighten the car, run race gas , wire the wastegate shut to run as much boost as you can get and the gallina TTA went 11.240s in 2003NHRA stock D/FIA class (1.520 sec under the index!!) with a stock intercooler per the rules.. i also found a posting that puts the car at 3390lbs and went on to run 10.83 121.25
running them this hard does shorten their lifespan

Hey Pauly whats up?? Yea im not trying to push a car that hard . When i get a car my goals are low 12s high 11's!! But thats in due time!! I just wanted to know what the limits of a car with a stock turbo!! Im searching for a car near stock in my price range and most of them cars are near or close to 100k miles!! Just trying to see what kinda life they have!! Most have upgraded turbo's , But theres 2 im looking at with stockers!!
 
with 135K mi 3600lbs GN i was running 12.00s with a stock turbo
but there were upgrades like a TT chip 340fuel pump and hotwire , valvesprings and timing chain replaced, injectors ,a healthy rebuilt trans,2800 torque converter, 3" downpipe ,test pipe ,hooker dual exhaust , alky inj, rjc boost controller, axles and ujoints , MT 'drag' radials (1.60 60') and tuning tools like scanmaster and Direct Scan to log
if you want 12 low dip 11s plan on stepping up to TA49

Yea i eventually wanna run them numbers. So ill eventually upgrade!! Thanx for the info guys!!
 
Mine lasted until 175,000 miles, I could have kept using it but upgraded for more power.
