Ready to set fire to this thing...........
Well I woke up this morning, yesterday's rain and storms made way to a beautiful sunny day. Having received my new up pipe in the mail yesterday I was excited with the thought of actualy being able to drive my car today. Wanting to do things right I pulled of my old pipe and started to remove the nuts from the studs(They had been frozen to the studs, which came out together). Everything was fine until I got to the last one.........it wouldn't budge. No problem, a little penetrating oil, a little heat, finally got it off but the threads came with it. So off to the NAPA store I went to get another stud. My local parts guru took one of my studs.........no problem, brought me back a set of 3 with nuts. Back to the house I went, only to find out he had given me sae 3/8 studs instead of the 10-15 metric studs I needed. After another trip across town I was ready to put everything together.
Reading the above posts I figured I'd be ok with the gasket I had acquired till the correct one was delivered sometime next week. Starting with the lower connection I tightened it first, noticing the 3 bolt flange on the top was about 1/8 - 1/4 or so away from the wastegate, thinking everything would pull together I tightened the top and started the car up. I immediately heard a loud exhaust leak, checked under the hood, and realized that my tightening the top had actualy pulled the pipe and that it was leaking from the rear side of the lower connection. Unbolted it from the wastegate , loosened the outter lower bolt, tried to loosen the inner one...........it wouldn't budge. Put a little force into it and SNAP!!! , it broke off............ Apparently tightening the top had bent it over. Why me???? So now I guess I have to take off my passenger side header and either get it out or have another nut welded to the under side of the flange. Looks like fun getting that header off

I sware if I don't get this thing running in the next week I'm letting them suspend the registration and plates, puting a car cover over it, and giving it some time to think about what its done. Maybe I'll work on it tomorrow............ but right now its just after noon, I'm getting a beer, taking the rider out, and cutting some grass.
