Sunoco 6.85 a gallon and the VP c16 is 7.50 here in town. c16 is what I always here to use from the folks here, but is there much difference?

Thanks,

James

hi,
sunoco rates their fuel with i believe "research" octane.VP rates their fuel at "motor" octane.motor octane is what we need to know.sunoco maximal is actually 114 motor octane not the 117 "they" rate it at.VP C16 is 116 "motor" octane.there are other factors also.this is just one example.i would stick with the C16.it is a proven winner for our cars.

nick,

VP C-16 is 117 motor octane. Put your car on a steady diet of C-16 crank it up to 30 pounds and hold on.

Well, I guess that settles it :p

Thanks Guys! I'm off to pay an insane amount for race gas, but it should be fun using it! ;)

Duttweiler uses c-16.

i heard he knows a few things too :p i would stay with c16 besided i heard they work best for turbo or supercharged cars.

I talked to a VP rep once at a track and he attempted to explain the nature of the fuel but what I got out of it is that VP fuels C-16 in particular were designed for SC and turbo'd cars, it was enough to convince me to buy some on the spot and my car went from 12.5 to 12.3 with about a 2mph increase changing nothing but gas from unocal 76 114 to c-16....must of had a little more knock than i thought :P, but after that i use c-16 as much as possible if its available, it just sux that in general the going price for c-16 is 7.50, although i have been quoted 6.75 if i buy 55 gallons of it :)

Okay, I bought some today and the color is blue. Is that the color of c16?

At first they thought they were sold out, and they were going to offer me some c14, but apparently they had some c16 left.

Hmm, any guess on what boost level I should start out with on a TA-49 and stock intercooler?

Thanks,

James

C-16 is blue and it smells good.
I was thinking about making it a cologne for us gear heads.

I would think that if you tune up is good and you have a scan tool,
starting around 20-22psi. I have run 23psi of stock turbo through a stock intercooler with c-16 with 24* timing. I would have gone higher but the stock turbo is dead at that point. I should have thrown another 4 to 6 degrees into it!!! When running a better turbo you should run lower timming and turn the boost up.
Have FUN!!!! I would think you could max out around 25-26 psi.
I am not sure that the 49 likes much more than that!

Thanks, FYI, I'm running 24lbs on alcohol injection and pump gas. Hopefully I can run more on c-16 :D

Actually, I phoned VP some time ago and presently, they recommend VP Import for our cars. Meant for ultimate turbo/nitrous applications. 120.3 octane. About $18/gallon.

:D

The Import Gas is not on the VP web site.
It must be reall new unless you are talking about their Air Race gas.

VP AIR RACE
Exclusive fuel for Reno Unlimited Air Racers. Also used in high-boost turbocharged applications. Highest octane fuel VP produces.

• Color: Blue
• Leaded
• Aromatic Hydrocarbon Content: 5% Manganese: .2 grams /gallon (2/10ths)
• Lean Knock F-3 (Method: 120.3)
• Rich Knock F-4 (Method: 157.2)
• Specific Gravity: .710 at 60° F

Is that what you are talking about???

I think he was joking about Import Octane, but it did sound like something they make with the Import craze everyone in cashing in...

Bishir,

What is the max boost the ta49 is blowing cold to?
Do you have enough fuel to run it that hi?
If so go for it, start slow and keep turning it up.

People have run 40 plus psi on C-16

I"m not sure, I haven't turned it past 24lbs yet.....

Racetronix hotwire kit, and Walbro 340 and 40# injectors should be enough for now I'd hope.

Thanks, I'll probably start at around 25lbs and go from there....
