What is the optimal boost range for a TA-49?

Is 25-26 too much?:D

(stock unported heads and open exhaust)

Thanks,
Don

My car has gone 11.5's @ 118 through the exhaust with a TA49 @ 23 psi. The Motor was 90K+ mile unopened stock.

23-24 psi has to be close to the sweet spot for a TA49 on a car with stock, untouched heads.

Me-sah concur with UNGN. I've run 27-28 pounds, but the car doesn't go any faster unless it's very chilly out.

Thanks UNGN and Quickwrench,

Ran a 12.17 Friday, and can almost taste the 11s. I'm just trying to figure how to make it. Didn't get any knock so I think I'll try 24# this week.

The TA-49 is generally under-rated. A friend of mine in my local club ran 11.1 with a TA-49, stock engine, and CAS V-2. That was with race gas, probably around 24-25psi boost (I would have to ask him). With a TA-49, stock I/C, and stock engine, I have run 11.97 on 100-octane gas on a cold day. With the new CAS V2 and a few other tweaks, I'm shooting for mid-11's on 100-octane.

Two words of advice: TRACTION and TUNING. You'll get there, and your car will be a lot of fun on the street, too.

PS: I've heard that the sweet spot for the TA-49 is in the 23-25psi range. Any higher than that and you're probably falling off the map.

Good Luck,

How tall are your drag radials? I could only scratch the 11's with 26" tall 275/50's. With 275/60's I had enough mph to run mid 11's. My car hated to rev over 5K.

28" tall nittos. They are new (only 4 passes and about 20 street miles) I started with the pressure at 21 then lowered it to 18 by the last run. That helped but they still spin with more than a 3# launch.

I thought my mph should have been a little higher since I have run 112 on previous 12.40 passes (the air temps were cooler then and my EGT was about 25* higher)

Thanks for the input UnGN and Mgmshar
