I am seriously thinking about getting this turbo when I take my motor out this winter and rebuild it. Who has this turbo and how is it? What stall converter best works with this turbo and is it capable of high 10's with low 20's boost? Also which injectors work best. I was thinking about going with 57 lb/hr high impedance injectors...thanks for any feedback

You might want to start looking at the newer GT style turbos with newer technology.

You'll need at least a 3500 stall.

To run 10s on low boost you'll need to have the heads hogged out big time.

i heard that the gt turbos arent working on the 109 block cars(spoolup)

The gt-q q trim turbine may be too big for a 3.8L motor to spool well, but the gt61, 67, and 71 compressor wheels are great.

according to PTE's website...the TA-64 is a "big shaft" turbo...what does that mean? is it gonna be hard to spool up? i was thinking about going with a 9/11 PTS converter or a vigilante converter with this turbo...anyone out there with this turbo?

d0n_3d,

I'm running the PTE-64E, it's worked well as you can see from my sig. My converter is a fairly tight being a vigilante NL with a rated stall at 3K to 3.2K. Turbo works great on the street, and I can launch the car with over 8-10 lbs of boost. It's a good low 11 high ten turbo.

Good Luck

As the wheels get larger a bigger shaft is used to handle the additional load. Bigger shaft, more surface area to spread the loads. Probably harder to spin, but more durable. I doubt that the shaft effects spool anywhere near as much as the bigger wheels.

I have a TA-64 on my car and it went a 11.20 on pump gas and 20# with a weight of 3650 and ported iron heads. With a good set of aluminum heads it might go 10's on low boost. It would probably take 24-25#'s of boost to break 10's with my car. Cranked up to 32# with C-16 it went a 10.56 last week.

Converter is a 10" PTC 3500 and spools good.

57# injectors will be fine.

If you are not concerned with having a stock appearing turbo which is what a TA seies is then I would go with something in a better housing. A TE-45A might fit your needs better.

wow 11.20's on pump gas??? yeah i think i have made up my mind on which turbo i want;)

i want to go from aggressive looking now to stock looking in the future when i DO decide to go high 10's low 11's...that's why i was looking at the TA series
