Find a machine shop and price out the machining operations. I doubt you'd get a new block that needs every single machining operation under the sun. Like I already stated, mine only needed the absolute basics. The same that any iron block new or used would have needed. Except for the sleeve seating. That was no big deal.

If you go to the TA Performance website, you can download the latest instruction sheets for the block. The procedure is explained in the instructions for the block.

I personally used an aluminum boring and honing plate that I bought from BHJ. I also have their steel honing plate for when using iron heads.

+1

I used the steel honing plate when I seated the sleeves. When the plate was torqued, I let the plate sit on the block for a few hours while sticking the block with a dead blow hammer.

Yeah, same thing. I took a plastic mallet to the honing plate.

I can't speak from experience, but some of the Pontiac aftermarket blocks are advertised as "ready to go" out of the box, requiring only bore/hone and final wash to be readied for assembly.

I guess the sticker shock on this one just isn't sinking in for me yet.

At this point I'm waiting to see what the Champion block has to offer next spring.

Thats as far from the truth as they can be.

The IA 2 block still requires a fair bit of machining to become compettative. unless your happy with run of the mill tolerances....... than i guess.

but those tolerances stack up real quick making for real poop.

Love the IA 2.... but its not as easy as they make it sound.

Hey does anyone know why when you get on the TA performance wed site and try to click on the motor it is "Sorry, this product is not currently available."? I was going to call but my dang phone broke last night.

That link on the right hand side of the page isn't working, so use the links on the left side of the page. Like this:
