Hi all,

I'm looking for good ways to mount the tach above the radio pod without poking screw holes for the standard autometer mounting plates.

I used velcro in the past but it would not hold over the long-term and, besides, my buddies gave me endless grief about it.

Thinking of making a mounting plate that could slip into the gap in the dash material-- anyone done this or have better ideas?

thanks,
Scott

I have tried a mount and it was too flimsie, I pulled one of the ac vents out and put my mounting plate there. If the day ever comes to remove the tach, I undo the mount and pop the ac vent back in and no one can see the holes.

Tach Mount

Not a very descriptive pic, but I made two slits in that piece of metal wrapped around the dash pad and ran two long joined hose clamp through them. Then the tach is held by the hose clamps once tightened down. Works good and is stable. i put a little piece of cardboard under the metal to keep the hose clamps from digging into the pad.

Try using a replacement rearview mirror mount. You can glue the pad to the windshield just high enough that the tach can rest on the dash, but won't fall off. You can also get a large mechanical suction cup mount for a cell phone and do the same thing. The suction cup uses a mechanical arm that you rotate to create a negative pressure. They hold pretty strong. Either of these positioned just right, allow the bottom of the tach to rest on the padded portion of the dash without harming it. ;)

John- Is that dual gauge pod the one from Auto Meter? Does it use a screw on bottom as well as the top?

azgn- Sounds neat, but I can't find it on the website. :(

The picture I had up there was not very good. Will try get another one.

It is a bracket that is bolted through the cig lighter hole. [This is relocated with a power point on the side of the console.] It is a very strong, rigid mount and easily removable with no marks or holes in the car. Tach is very visible and does not block vents or controls.

Will try to get a pic today and have it posted on my web site. Stay tuned............!

On a previous car I had an AutoMeter 3-3/4" tach. I mounted it w/ the supplied mounting hardware.
I simply used the bottom screw on the a-pillar and it worked perfectly.

Here is the link to the pic of Scott Simpsons tach mount...

It looks like it is using the screw holes that secure the instrument cluster dash pad to the dash...Maybe Scott will chime in with exactly how it's mounted, but that is the way it looks to me...

I just went through this myself. I am not mounting all this s.... in my car. I am just going to save and get the GNXDASH. Nice clean and sleeper look. Yes it is pricy but what isnt on these cars. It seems everything ends in a $5.00. Turbo $695.00, GNXDASH $875.00, Intercooler $995.00. What is it with $5.00 and these cars.
