I don't know if this is common knowledge and I missed it, or if this is a new question: Is there a relationship between the build/performance level of the transmission and the color of the id tag?

It seems that all the "performance" builds (BR, CZ, KZ...) have yellow id tags, and the more generic builds (OG, KC...) have blue tags. Is this true? Are there other colors?

What color are the tags on AA's found in Cadillacs? Did they make variants between the weakest models and the performance models (including typical upgrade items: input shaft, servo, sun shell, stator...)?

Lots of questions - sorry.

Thanks,
Joe M

I've noticed that too. Now I've could have sworn my OEM BRF tag was blue. I have a GM SRTA(factory reman'd) BRF with the yellow tag so I was thinking that blue was OEM and yellow was replacement. I'm going to have to do some snooping around the boneyard and see what's up with that now. Several possibilties that I'm thinking of. I'll post back if I think I have a lucky guess anyway.

Let me know if you find anything interesting Eric. I'm looking for a good core.

I live in Lake Worth, about 2.5 hours south of you. No yellow tags in my area boneyards. It may be worth the day off and the drive for a good find!

Ive got all different color tags. I just got a CZ that had a pink tag. My favorite color:biggrin: .

GM reman units have a green tag

I have a Monte SS CZ code. Guy I bought it from said it came from an 86 model he was swapping in a BBC454 & TH400, it has a Yellow tag.

Both the BRF and CZF I now have had yellow tags, both 87..The KCF I have here came out of my old 86 Regal limited , the tag is blue.. I forget what the AA was, possibly pink???? I forget.
