Yeah, that was a nice writeup. I'd never really read that mag before but was really pleased to find that it's much better written than most of the gearhead mags.

Was that the article where the took off a stock turbo and 30 lbers and replaced it with a TE-44 and 50's but only gained .09 at the track.. I would think that upgrade would be worth more than .09 I would think you at least pick up a tenth or two.

Yes. I was also shocked they didn't get more out of it. But from the article, it looks like they failed to do any tuning to bring the times down. OK, they did put in a new chip, but that was it as far as I could tell. That's a hell of a lot of money and time spent for such a small gain. I trust others who have made this swap saw better gains...?

I think we may be missing his point.

He was apparently max-out on his previous Turbo & Stock injector set-up.

The installation allowed him to pick-up approx. 3 mph, and the duty cycle of the injectors were in the 80+% range vs 111% d.c. for the stockers.
ET is the product of traction & 60' times. 3mph is the product of approx--30hp at the same boost level.

Additional tuning and higher launch boost would have greatly improved his ET & MPH...but he did say he had bad rear shocks and the transmision was flaring on the shifts.

Based on the above, I would come to the conculsion that it was a very good upgrade, and he will see greater gains in the future with his new combo.

I agree it lets him run at a much safer level and the 3 MPH pickup was nice. But on the dyno they only saw an increase of 14 HP and at the strip they had nearly identical 60' 1.80 vs. 1.81 with 1.80 on the run with the 44 which means some of the .09 secs it picked up was from the 60'.

I still think that 24 lbs boost with a TE-44 should be flowing significantly more air than a stocker at same boost level. I thought the difference should be more like 50hp or even a little more. On precision's website, they say a 44 is good to like 580 HP and a stocker is only like 440 or something.

In my dad's car we were going 11.80's all day with nothing but a 44, 50's and a THDP and his GNX never 60' less that 1.70.
