My trans was rebuilt about 35k miles ago or so (prev owner). It still shifts hard as hell, and feels great. But I've been having problems with the TCC solenoid sticking I'm guessing. I've described all the symptoms to several individuals, and they all said thats the case. When it gets hot, it tends to stick. I need to do a fluid & filter change here very soon. Even so, the fluid is still red. Just barely a shade darker then out of the bottle.
At the track, I clean the tires, keep the trans in Drive, then flip the switch for lockup while staging. After I go through the lights, I bump the shifter back into OD, and flip the switch back off (unlock). I think it stays locked anyway once I put it into OD and let off the throttle going to the lights at 97 mph. All the power-braking before the launch doesnt help keep things cool either.
After the first couple runs last time, it was fine going down the return road. But by the third run, it was sticking, and felt clunky slowing down to a halt, like it was trying to unlock the converter. It's done this on the street too, while fooling around with the lockup switch making sure it was working. I've done the "45 mph - bump the brake" test and everything works fine. Just once it gets hot, it seems to stick and be clunky letting off the gas, and back on the gas, and slowing to a stop.
Can this be fixed by replacing the lockup solenoid? At least temporarely? Or is this a common, always-gonna-happen when the trans gets hot problem? Could a good fluid change help? Along with a new solenoid maybe? I'm going to install a trans cooler eventually. I would think that when the trans was rebuilt, that they would have replaced the solenoid. But again, that was 35-40k miles ago. And they did a damn good job on the trans itself, but they put a junk cork pan gasket on, that seeps ALL the way around. I'm replacing it with an ATP kit, which has a nice gasket, made of cork thats literally impregnated AND dipped in rubber.
Any ideas or suggestions on this sticking solenoid? I cant have it doing this all the time when it gets hot.
