There is alot wiser men than me here but I thought for a few years I could run the D5 PTS w a TE 44 but I had a front mount and a PTE 85 housing, That didnt work. I finally bought a Vigilante 0 pump 5 disc and its like a new car. Stall is around 3000. I can build boost at will on the T brake and I am racing for the first time in the morning here at Norwalk with it and hope this is the ticket. I could only get 2.0 60 foots before but the top end was awesome. 12.30s @117 really sucked.

There is no noticable difference between the Non Lock-up and Lock-up other than when it locks up, other wise they are the same. The Non lock-up is perfectly fine on the street and very street freindly, the Only thing with the Non lock-up is only a few hundred more RPM's on the interstate..

BTW: The larger intercooler should actually make it spool better/quicker..

Get a TT chip and new 60 #injectors, the 44 should fry the tires with champion heads. Keep a lock-up converter for the street mpg, it's all in the combination. You should be frying the tires now..... maybe the chip/injectors would wake it up. If you have a logger post up a file.
Cotton has a good front mount...

I have ESP Racing Head's from the PA. shop.Don't know if they are close to the Champion head's or not??I know there not aluminum.Yeah the 60# injector's i will buy hopefully soon.

The guys that make and sell the Vigilante recommended a 3200 9.5 single disc converter.Iknow alot of guys with the TE-44 Turbo also use a 3200 converter.Thats way above a 2800 stall converter.I just think if I get a TT chip and 60 injector's and it still is a bit lazy in 1st gear a 3200 might not be overkill on my car.

Anybody running A Vigilante 3000 9.5 single disc stall converter with there TE-44.This was popular a few years ago.I figure if I go with a bigger Turbo someday I might want to bypass a 10 Inch 2800 converter.

I have the Precision 5 Disk with my TA49 (same wheels as TE44), it's instaspool heaven. Had to get better shocks and DOT's to somewhat get traction.

It's going to be for sale soon if interested.

Is that a 3000 or 3200 5 disc converter??

The guys that make or sell the Vig reccommended the 3200 Single Disc L/U Converter. That seems like overkill for the tire's with the majority going with the 10 Inch 2800 converter or even stock D5.

i have a turbonetics 44, 3" downpipe with external wastegate.. mine spools much later than stock also. running 65lb injectors and alky and tt chip. running 20 lbs of boost right now. I got a 2800 - 3000 non lock up still in the box. going to get it installed soon. yes this turbo doesnt like the stock converter, spools late, then out of nowhere the tires just break loose.

Im leaning to a 2800-3000 converter also.I just don't want traction problems with a 3200 converter.Alot of guys just like the 3200 to break the tires loose whenever they want.I want my car to hook so i can feel every lb of torque that comes out from the engine. The 10 Inch 2800 or 3000 10 Inch is probably what i am going to go with.My restalled D5 sucks compared to a stock Turbo regal in terms of spool up.

Well I finally made it to the track today with the 5 disc Vigilante. Its a 0 pump which is a 3000 stall give or take, Matters how you look at it I guess. Last pass before I put this in was a 12.38@115 last fall. Well today first pass ever after this right off the trailer I went 11.61@117 with a 1.70 60 foot (I think the alky needs to have the turn on point raised to help the 60 foot) I ran 3 more passes in 90 degree heat at Norwalk all in the 11.60s. I used to have your problem and Im glad I finally got a real convertor. Hope this helps

The only thing is that precision didn't recommend the 5 disc 3000 stall converter for me.Im unfamiliar with the 5 disc compared to the single disc. They recommended the 3200 single disc 9.5 converter.Me knowing not much about automatics and stall converters have now 3 or 4 in mind but don't know which one would be best.I don't need something when I go full throttle on the street, especially over 35mph and then have the car go sideways:eek: when I hit that throttle.

Most guys prefer the PTC over the Vigilante.I don't know the differences between the 2 different brands:confused:

I also bought a PTC from Dusty Bradford 10" 2800 for my girlfriends car we just restored. Pretty much the same set up as mine except she has blue tops and a Cotton SLIC. I have not been able to get on her car yet as we are still breaking in the new engine but so far I like the Vigilante better. Keep in mind the Vigilante is twice the price of the PTC I used. Keep researching and Im sure you will find an answer. Lots of opinions on this here. Some companies also rate their convertors differently. Call Dusty and talk to him on this. He will not steer you wrong.

Yeah the Vigilante is around $700- $730 for the single disc, but I don't know what the 5 disc set up runs?? Does Precision make and sell the Vigilante's??

Doing some research Im leaning towards a Vigilante 5 Disc 3000 stall converter.I don't know the price on them though.

Just called Precision Industries and they only make the 5 Disc converter in a 2800 or 3200 Stall.Oh, also the price is an astounding $997,wow!!! This converter better do something the others don't do other then rattling at idle.Even with the 5 disc 2800 Vigilante I might still have traction problems I never had before.I got to save up the money for this one.It comes with a 2 year warranty which is better then 1 year.

I had this combination, the converter lock up went out, (switched to the PTC 3200 lock up), others had problems also with the lock-up clutch going bad over time.
The TE-44 is a great turbo for the street/strip, bunch of the racer's in MAGNA are running the PTC 3200 lock-up for street/strip..... so when it was time for me to switch I went with what the faster guys are runnng. You will need some decent M/T Street Radials to get traction with this combo... be careful in the rain.

Actually Im leaning towards a Vigilante 2800 5 Disc 9.5 Inch converter. There converters come in 400 rpm increments.I know that if I went with a 3200 5 Disc(L/U) I would need Mickey Thompson's ET Street Tire's.It still should wake up my car even though it won't be a 3200 stall converter.

The converter is generally rated at where you see 0psi on the footbrake, mine is 2800rpm but with the transbrake I can easily get 3600rpm and 10psi with the TA49.

The reason you get the 5 disc over the single is so in 3rd gear at 85mph you have the chip command for it to lock up and allow 100% of the power to go to the rear wheels.

You don't need more than a 2800rpm 0psi stall with the smaller turbos. You also have to consider that the Precisions are not very efficient unlocked, so you'd want to lock it in 3rd to make up for that. You can lock the single disc, but you're not going to get as many passes out of it vs the 5 disc of course.

I gotta think about this.
