Not too much convertor for racing. I have a 3500 in my car (completely differant ball game) and love it. Have you tried the 3000 at the track yet?

I'm not one of the big boys yet, but I for one can honestlyy say I'm absolutly pleased with the TE45a. I'm also running a stock unopend motor and my goal is to be one of the fastest cars out there with out the cam and head mod, atleast for now.

Dare to be diffrent;)  You may have use more boost to acheive your goal, but it can be had. And tuning as you already know, is always an issue.

More boost? You don't think he can get enough with a 60? What are your times with your combo? What convertor?

I dont think anyone here would disagree that you car will definately be faster in race trim (ie slicks/race gas/high boost) with the TE45A. If it were MY car id go with the TE45A , I could care less about driveability on the street though.I just want to be FAST in a straight line. And we all know sooner or later youll want to go faster. Then you can add ported heads/cam and be cookin:D

Just my$.02.

We are turbo crazy on this site. Anyone who claims a 45A is a good solution for stock heads has no understanding whatsoever of the compressor curves, and had better be willing to live with the thing bucking its brains out, or run ludicrous stall.

Turbonetics has compressor maps for T66 and T64. They do not have a map for a T63. At 27 psi of boost here are the surge limits for these to compressors:

T66 = below 40#/min the compressor should surge. approx 400 hp.

T64 = below 45#/min the compressor should surge. approx 450 hp.

According to the compressor maps a 66 will be less likely to surge on a unported head motor than a 64. In either case I'm sure I'm making more than 400 to 450 hp @ 27 psi on my unported head motor. I believe my times reflect hp levels in the 500 range. TurboJoe runs a 66 on a stock headed motor and his car runs hard, I run a 63 on a stock headed motor and mine runs hard. The big shaft turbos work good on unported head motors. The bigger P-trim exhaust wheels really help to uncork the exhaust system.

Why is it that people will all jump up and recommend a 3" down pipe on even the slower cars with small turbos. They say you need one to reduce back pressure and your car will pull harder on the top end. Now you take the faster unopened motor guys and people tell them the P-trim turbos wont do crap for them. They say we need heads to make them work. They act like the reduced back pressure of a P-trim turbo wont do any thing for us....a slow car will benefit from reduced back pressure but a faster one wont ????

So whats your car running and what type of stall do you have, how is it on the street?

I mean after I put my pts converter in i picked up 3 tenths. On the street it seems to work fine, it doesnt rip the tires up, but it spools up pretty good.

Big turbos on the street like ball bearings. :)

Lowers the stall needed greatly.

Double ball bearing 70 works fine with stock heads and cam and 3200 stall Protorque converter.

NO SURGING using a V4 stock location intercooler.

Pump gas and alky., times in the spring, hopefully.

Drove it all winter so far and it's a great turbo, P trim.

Daily driver.

V8KillR4U and Russ Merritt

I will have some idea of what my car will run this Saturday at California Speed way in Fontana, CA.

Currently I am running the stock convertor, I cant make up my mind with who's and what convertor I want to go with, maybe I will have some idea after talking to some of the fellas at the track over are day long endeavor. Most likely I will go with the Precision 3500-3600 L/U though, that's what I've been leaning towards, I just want to be sure.

Otherwise, this Saturday I'm just going to look at the trap speed and tune a little and document the out come it.

As far as streeatability, it has very good manners and no Idle problems what so ever. Just takes for ever to build boost;) But, once it get going, it doesn't stop pulling!

Russ - I really do like the 60 series turbo and is more than enough to acheive his current goals. I my self was just looking for a little bigger turbo, for future mods:) I believe the TE-63 is good for 690 with a flow rate of 950CFM? Anyway....

I'm still learning my self, but I just like being diffrent I guess.
