Is it ok to run a TE-60 turbo with the stock D5 converter? Figured since my old TE-44 turbo spooled INSTANTLY with the stock converter that the 60 turbo would have barely any spool problem as well since it's not much larger than a 44...

60 trim as compared to a 60-1 isn't thatmuch bigger at all(you r correct), However looking into the turbine aspect could be a nother story depending on what it has as well as a housing.

I had a 60-1 ptrim with an .82 housing and it took a day and a half to spool so be careful .....

Couple of weeks ago i took my TE-60 off and reinstalled TE-34
because of 12" D5@2500 just not enough. TE-60 likes more
stall some say not i differ.:D

I have an 84 Monte SS with an 87 Gn motor with 009's, bigger cam, TH 3" downpipe and ATR SS dual exhaust. Had a TA 61 on and was sluggish. Switched to a TA 60 and was about half way between the 61 and stock turbo in spooling. Really not that bad with stock converter. Didn't like the 61 at all with the D5. 61 pulled noticably stronger after it spooled up than the TA 60. Both are .63 housings. Car ran 12.60 @107 last week on street radials (not drag) 93 Octain and closed exhaust. This was at Salem, Ohio, a 2 tenths slower track as it goes up hill at the end!

On the street, i can't notice any spoolup difference compared to my old ta49. I would think building boost off the line would be a problem, but it works well on the street. A 9/11 3000 stall would be perfect though and i plan on getting one of those soon. But i wouldn't hesitate to go with a 60... you can get away with the stock TC as long as you dont plan on any serious racing.

I have a TA60, similar to what you have and spool up is a little slower initially than the stock turbo, but once it starts going it shoots up there quick. I build to about 4psi off the line and it hooks even with street bfg's. With the stock turbo it would just spin at 1 psi off the line. It is just enough lag to allow me to get outta the hole pretty hard, then the boost flys after about 1.5 seconds and it pulls hard. It is right on the edge of the bfg's but works great for me.
