Hi guys, im new to the forum also the newly proud owner of 1 of my dream cars....a1987 Buick G.N, but ive ran into what seems to be a MAJOR problem...NO ONE KNOWS MUCH OF THESE CARS HERE!!!! Maybe ive been searching in all the wrong places, cause either they are to picky to tackle a "project car" or they dont have time or simply they're NOT knowledgable with the car, but claim "hell its just a car, what could be so hard about performance upgrades??" Can someone PLEASE point me in the right direction with finding a person in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metro area that REALLY knows the TRUE "in/out" of these cars.......PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carluva,

What problems are you having with your car? We have 3 guys here local to the DFW area that know Buicks very well. Jack Laswell in Rowlett just finished up his streetable Stage 2 setup. Duke McCain in Burleson has a "FAST" 109 that runs consistant 6.40's @107. Rick Kinworthy in Arlington helped me our several years ago with my buildup when I needed a motor built in short order and turned 10.7 @ 125 at the next event.

You can also meet several of our club members within the Lone Star Performance Buick Club forum at LSBPCforums.net Let us know what you need.

I feel hurt John.:( Ok, just kidding.

There's lots of guys on the forum that can help you figure out what the issue is on this forum. Please post what kind of problem you're having and lets see if we can help you.

No MAJOR problems....car runs fine. Its BONE STOCK tho!!! It has a little oil leak frm the bottom, but i wnt to do some performance upgrades, chrome/stainless upgrades, & SEVERE engine detailing.

Hang out with some Buick guys at the drag strip. That way you'll get info from guys actually running their cars and you can see how fast they run. Use the forums or LSPBC to see who is going. Then read here and try to do the work yourself, its not that hard if you have some tools and lots of patience. I used to live in Plano/Addison and there used to be a lot of Buicks there roaming the streets.

So this is about a rear main or valve cover gasket, and chrome upgrades?

Where in DFW are you?

Back when i built my first car gnttype.org is where i got alot of great info like the spring cleaning article and they had a bunch of recipes for building your buick to go a certian speed. Hopefully i am wrong but it sounds like you are looking for someone to do the work for you. In my opinion if that is the case i would strongly recommend you choose another car to modify, unless you have really deep pockets. JMHO

@ Moneypit....NO you're not wrong, i am looking for someone who has the patience & knowledge. Unfortunately, my pockets are not deep, & neither am i mechanically inclined AT ALL!!

@ Notacarlo....No its not jus that, i was just letting the guys know that my car does run & drive, but thats the obvious issues with it, but i want to do sum performance upgrades as well.

Well i am glad that you love the car, so if i were you and the car runs good i would just start off just maintaining the car for now and get to know it. Enjoy it for what it is then start doing little mods to it like the fuel pressure regulator, manual boost controller, cai system. Those things are super easy and dont require much in knowledge or tools. Then as your knowledge grows you can take on more challenging things. There are 2 different types of mechanics, a parts changer and a parts changer/diagnoser. You need to be the first one b4 the second. Above all you will need patience and things will piss you off like bolts breaking, not having the right tool, parts dont work even though they are new. Start small, enjoy the car for what it is then go from there.

I'll probibly get in trouble for this but, if you want some help and direction on repairs ect and want to learn I will help you learn how to do what you need. I'm used to explaining and teaching people how to work on their cars and have done hands on with them quite a bit. You'll need to come down here though because I can't carry the shop up to you. I don't have a problem taking cash for work but I'd honestly rather teach you how to do it yourself so you can save some cash and make it your own.
