Hey Guys I have a TH 3" down pipe pretty standard bolted to a TE-66 among the standard issue of puck alignment I am having a problem with the waste gate are seizing in the down pipe.

Basically what is happening is condensation from the engine come through the exhaust (normal on all engine) and the water seems to concentrate itself right at the waste gate arm. well a little time and heat rust sets in the sleeve of the waste gate arm and seizes it up and then the accumulator can not over come it resulting in no boost.

When this happens every so often I just unbolt the Down pipe squirt some lubricant on the wastegate and free it up...this is nothing major and takes about 10 minuets but is still a pain.

Does anyone else have this issue?

If so have you found a good fix other than going to an external waste gate?

Thanks!

I don't have this issue as I have an external gate but I would try using anti-seize on the moving parts. HTH

I think I have heard of people in the past solving this by reaming the hole out a little bigger.

Are you absolutely SURE it is a THDP?? Could it be an ATR piece? ATR for a while made exact copy "knockoffs" of the THDP, and virtually every one they made suffered from the problem you describe.
I have heard of no THDP's suffering this issue.

Almost everbody's making knockoffs of his original design, so unless your pipe is pretty old, it's doubtfull it's a TH original. And even if it is an older piece, it could still be an ATR copy, or one of several others.

I've seen this happen when a lot of leaded fuel is used.

Obviously the shaft clearance on the swing arm is too tight. This needs to be opened up.

No I am not 100% sure it's a TH, I bought this pipe about 8 or 9 years agofrom a guy that had a lot of new parts at the time...he could have been wrong in saying it is a TH down pipe.

thanks for the reply's guys it looks like I may need to open up the pipe to create some more clearance.

Thanks again for the comments!
