This is the race that should never have been,
mainly because it is a race I didn’t win.

Heading Saturday morn south on the 405,
kicking back all comfy enjoying the drive.

Going west on Magnolia was a ‘47 Chev,
I wasn’t looking for a race so I didn’t rev.

Evidently he was and he revved thrice,
I took the challenge & picked up the dice.

A funny feeling in my head I didn’t heed,
The Buick jumped ahead & took the lead.

Then all of a sudden a cough and a sneeze,
it slowed & quit dead in its tracks with ease.

Feeling all blue & not knowing what to do,
I jumped on my cell & called on papa Lou.

We met at his shop & he scrutinized my car,
Lou being the expert he is he didn’t look far.

He noted the alky control button was over its limit,
said the motor drank too much alky & couldn’t win it.

I saw this guy’s car at Donut Derelict’s Saturday morning &
put the following not on the front window:

Sir: I apologize for not giving you much of challenging race
last Saturday but the alky setting was way too high & the
motor laid over & died. If you would like to have a go at it
again my home & cell #’s are noted below.

I caught him leaving & went over to him to talk.
It was obvious he wanted no more of the Buick.

Unfortunately, a true accounting of my big race.

Hey Gary:
I hope that great white turbo Buick is feeling better now :). BTW, I liked your poetic description of the event.

Many thanks, Charlie. Long time, no see or hear.
Hope you & family are doing great.
Cad is up to 721 RWHP on E-85 & an animal.
How's your GN doing?
That was my 1st attempt at poetry, and probably my last too.
