After many years of saving money we are finally getting our new garage built and it is being built around the needs of the Buick! The Amish are building a post frame garage for me.

They started it yesterday and will have it finished today. It is 24 x 30 with a 12' ceiling for a lift. It is amazing to watch the guys work. They don't even talk to each other while they are working. They obviously know what they are doing.

Nice! It will be built right & like brick shathouse with Amish doing it.

Cool, but there's something like 4' between those trusses! That isn't a concern for you?

That's how post frame buildings are. It will just be a tin shell around it.

Nice.
I keep dreaming for something similar.

Three years ago, I had a local (certified) contractor quote me a similar size extension to the garage. The going rate was about $47k. Not looking for cheap labor, just not sure if its worth it for this neighborhood.

My garage was built by Coach House. Also Amish workers. They started at 7:30 AM and finished at 4PM. I never even had to call them back for anything. The walls were pre-built and everything went up as planned. They left the horses and buggies at home. Post more pics when it is done.

Congrats on the new build. We bought 2, 20x20 metal building a few years ago, in components, for around $2200, and made it a 20x40 to extend the shop. Cost around $2500 and we did the labor. We just need to do the concrete now to make it really decent.;)

Total price is $12,500. I have to do the electrical. Not something the Amish are well versed at. All the windows and door and the garage doors are insulated. They polished and seal the concrete. The garage door openers are lift master screw drive so they will be whisper quiet and will last a long time. I couldn't be happier. I should have it insulated before this winter.

This is the old garage! It was extremely well built but it obviously wasn't big enough.

Wow Eric! That thing is bigger than your house! Here in Champaign they have rules about the garage being a certain size compared to the house. They would not have allowed that garage here in my yard unless I had a really big house. When do you get the lift?

Rick you have that law because you live in the land of Obama!

The code here is the building has to be at least 5 feet from the property line and 25 feet from the street and can't be over 19 feet tall. However you can apply for a variance and build higher or closer to the limits.

I am going to sell some stocks and hopefully have the lift before winter.

Very nice, like the polished floor. How thick is the floor? Are you getting a 2 or 4 post lift?

I would add a man door by the garage doors. If you pull out of the garage and you forget something, you either have to walk to the back or open the garage door letting alot of heat/AC to escape. Walking to the back everytime is going to get old real quick.

Fcking love it.....pics are great but can we have more so i can try to copy your garage..:happy:

also are you sure it is 30 and not 32,just seems smarter to go 32 so every thing falls in place with out thinking

If you look closely at the tool cabinet you will see something familiar. The wife got me the cabinet for Father's Day. Heading to Greg Smith Equipment today to find a 4 post lift. I am looking at a Atlas 8,000# lift. I want to have the Buick up on the lift during the winter so I can park my Subaru Legacy under it.

Billy, our cars have been broken into a few times and I only want openings I can see from the house. The concrete is 4" thick with #7 rebar. We made the rebar where I work.
