Cam shaft failure? Loose the cam. I'm not going to scrap my 212/212 bumpstick just yet, but if these Swedes are correct; Now might not be a good time to buy stock in Comp Cams.

!

Also, Eric at Turbo Tweak needs to think about programming different cam profiles into his chips. I'm sure that the lift and duration will be adjustable by stepping on the gas peddle three times and watching the Scanmaster numbers rise. Someone will need to come up with a spark plug/ injector in one that will fit into a standard spark plug hole. This way we can convert our engines over to direct injection.

You guys. Don't laugh. This stuff is coming. Some of it's already here. Just look at F1 motors.

Happy actuating.

Forget which forum I saw this at before here. Crazy interesting technology. This can totally revamp the whole car market. I can only imagine how small cars could become and yet having a ton of power even reducing knock by a lot!

i think they were using pneumatic valve actuators in F1 about 20 years ago, but they made them go back to a conventional OHC setup to keep costs down..

i remember reading in Hot Rod in the early 90's about a guy that patented a rocker arm setup that allowed the lift and duration of any camshaft to be infinitely variable on the fly within a certain range..

Saab was going to try that about 15 years ago. They had that and variable combustion chamber. That never went into production. I want to say Cummins or Detroit is in a development phase on this design

The multi-air Chrysler engine has variable lift so with independent camshafts, lsa, cam timing, and now lift can all be varied independent of each other. Duration is the only non variable factor unless you phase the cam each combustion event to lengthen or shorten the duration but I'm not aware that they can actuate the phase change fast enough to make that work on each combustion event.
