The 64-74 Pontiac GTOs and the new GM/corporate/Pontiac GTOs are not the same, and have nothing in common other than they are GM products. The old GTOs were fun in their day and have continued through the years to do the same. Not the fastest even in their day, nor everyones favorite ride, the owners and admirers of the old GTOs like them for what they are or whatever their reason.
The new corporate GTO while looks to have great performance potential ( styling a matter of personal taste of course) , really can't be compared to the original Pontiacs. Unfortunatly it looks as though there will never be a "real" Pontiac powered car again, that is just the way it is, but the name/ badge Pontiac will remain for who knows how long? anyway, personally I don't know if I really care what GM does anymore, just to bad they could not market the new car in a better way.
As a car enthusiast of many makes and models I can appriciate the new GTO for what it can do (looks aside), and the original GTOs for the same, however having been involved with original GTOs for 26 years, in clubs, and judging at shows, the new cars have their place but not really with the old at events or being compared with, they are not the same car ...period.
